During the press conference, as featured in ComicBook.com, for the upcoming romantic comedy-drama “Focus,” Will Smith and Margot Robbie discuss their excitement upon their upcoming reunion in David Ayer’s “Suicide Squad.”
“The way that David Ayer works is its all images, all ideas, and he holds the screenplay, holds the screenplay, and just keeps sending you things about your character, he just wants you to be prepared for everything,” Smith tells.
Smith then went on to talk about his roles in Hancock and in Focus and his upcoming role as Warner Bros.’ Deadshot. “I think I haven’t explored the psychology enough of Deadshot, somebody who could take money to kill people; how he justifies that for himself. So, I still have a little bit of work to do on that, but in my life in general and in my career, those are the type of roles that I’m pushing more towards; those kinds of questions.”
Check out the rest of his interview on the videos below.
Robbie and Smith will be playing the villains Harley Quinn and Deadshot, respectively, along with other A-list celebrities such as Jai Courtney, Jared Leto and Cara Delevigne who will be playing some of the deadliest villains from DC’s gallery of rogues. “How to Get Away with Murder” star Viola Davis is set to play Amanda Waller while the role for the squad’s leader Rick Flag is still vacated. Tom Hardy, who was earlier attached for the role, left the project, with “Nightcrawler” star Jake Gyllenhaal being considered to fill in the role Hardy left; however, Gyllenhaal has passed up on the role. “Suicide Squad” will begin filming in April for an August 5, 2016 release.
Smith and Robbie’s “Focus” follows the romance between con-man Nicky Spurgeon (Will Smith) and the attractive Jess Barrett (Margot Robbie). Spurgeon, a seasoned con-man, becomes romantically involved with an attractive young woman while introducing her to the tricks of his con-man trade. However, Spurgeon breaks the relationship off when Barrett gets too close for comfort. Three years later, the former flame — now an accomplished femme fatale — shows up in Buenos Aires as the opposing side to Spurgeon’s latest scam. In the midst of Nicky’s latest, most dangerous scheme, she throws his plans for a loop and the consummate con-man off his game.
“Focus” hits theaters on February 27, 2015.
