‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ to be Journey’s End for Main Characters, Says Simon Kinberg
As the trailer for “X-Men: Apocalypse” comes out with “The Martian,” producer Simon Kinberg is really happy with the former. But it seems to be journey’s end for our main characters. Read on to find out how.
“X-Men: Apocalypse” is still awhile away, but it may be closer than you think. Writer and producer Simon Kinberg recently sat down with Collider, to talk “X-Men”, and he said he is “really happy with the way the movie has turned out.” Kinberg said:
“It delivers on the dramatic story and emotion of the last two movies. It feels like the culmination of the four main characters really — McAvoy, Fassbender, Nic Hoult, and Jen. And it’s a bigger movie in both physical scale and I would say emotional stakes too because it is the culmination of this mini trilogy of stories.”
Not to risk the serious nerd rage this quote will surely generate, we should like to clarify that it is culmination of the characters journey for Professor X, Magneto, Beast and Mystique, not the culmination of the entire franchise. Given that in the upcoming movie, the X-Men will be battling Apocalypse. He is one of the most powerful mutants in the Marvel universe, we can expect this movie to be the ‘culmination’ of at least some of them.
As the teaser for “X-Men: Apocalypse” probably comes out with “the Martian,” Forbes has published a thought-provoking piece about which movie needs the publicizing. The crux of the argument is this, attaching an “X-Men” trailer to “the Martian” helps the less commercial “the Martian” more than it helps “X-Men.” So much so it has become a case of the trailer publicizing the movie as opposed to the movie publicizing the trailer.
Scott Mendelson of Forbes has this to say, and I think there cannot be a better closing remark.
“..if you’re one of those people who think that comic book superhero movies are ruining cinema and/or America, you can take comfort in the notion that the new X-Men movie is being used as a de-facto marketing tool for a big-budget, star-packed, adult-skewing sci-fi adventure like The Martian.”
