Yawn: Darren Aronofsky Inks Deal with Fox, ‘Wolverine’ Starts Soon
Fancy pants director, Darren Aronofsky, has signed a two-year contract to create movies for 20th Century Fox in combination with his Protozoa Pictures production firm.
Aronofsky’s upcoming ballet thriller Black Swan, starring Mila Kunis and Natalie Portman, comes out in December. He’s slated to direct the Marvel Comics blockbuster The Wolverine under the agreement.
The Wolverine reunites Aronofsky with his Fountain star Hugh Jackman. Production is supposed to being in the April time-frame.
Aronofsky’s highly acclaimed drama The Wrestler and the lesbian smooch fest, Black Swan, were both released through Fox’s indie label Fox Searchlight.
“Darren’s vision has brought audiences some of the most original and memorable stories and characters in recent motion picture history,” says Steve Gilula and Nancy Utley of Fox Searchlight. “We at Fox witnessed this first hand with his work on The Wrestler, and Black Swan, and now, on The Wolverine, which will be an exciting take on that iconic figure and on the genre itself. We can’t wait to see what else Darren has in store for us.”
