THE YOUNG, HOMELESS GIRL-TURNED-JOURNALIST WHO INTERVIEWED PRINCE WILLIAM
It is a well-known fact that the Duke of Cambridge knows how to fulfil his responsibilities well. This time, he did something incredible and won the hearts of many as he made sure that he fulfils a promise made years ago to a journalist.
Prince William has kept his promise of giving an interview to a then young, homeless aspiring journalist, Sophia Kichou. The journalist met the Duke while she used to stay in a hostel as she was homeless at that point of time. She had to leave her home quite early due to her abusive father, who became a threat to her life. When the young girl 18 years met Prince William six years back, she told him her wish to become a journalist. Prince William was then very encouraging and told her that she would definitely achieve her dreams and even interview him some day.
Though it has been six years already, the Duke kept his promise. Kichou, now 24, was invited to Kensington Palace to interview him and they had a discussion on a variety of topics such as careers, youth homelessness, and the upcoming Christmas season.
While talking about Centrepoint, the Duke said that the charity is very close to his heart. He said the reason is he visited the charity with his mother, The Princess of Wales, Diana often. He also revealed how the concerns regarding youth homelessness has changed of late after he has become the Centrepoint’s Patron.
When asked by the budding journalist about his plans for Christmas, the Prince excitedly replied that he and his wife are looking forward to spending it with their son, daughter, and the rest of the Royal family members. He further added that his son, who is a little over two years, is beginning to understand that Christmas is near and there is going to be some celebration.
The 24-year old journalist mentioned how interviewing Prince William was a very important moment in her life that she is going to cherish forever. She further added that though she was a bit nervous at the beginning, she started enjoying the whole process of talking to the Prince as the interview progressed. She added she is extremely grateful to those who helped her with the interview.
Sophia Kichou, not so long back, received the Centrepoint media award. The award was presented to her by Price Williams last month for her dedication to journalism and study.
