Zoey Deutch to Play the Role of Zac Efron’s Love Interest in ‘Dirty Grandpa’

Zoey Deutch has been added to the roster of stars to play in the Lionsgate movie, “Dirty Grandpa.” Read on for further details.

According to Deadline, the star of “Vampire Academy,” Zoey Deutch, will play the role of Shadia, an environmental advocate who becomes Jason’s (Zac Efron) love interest.

“Dirty Grandpa” is a road trip comedy that follows Efron’s character, Jason, who is tricked into driving his grandfather (Robert De Niro) to Florida ahead of his wedding. De Niro plays the role of a foul-mouthed former Army general (pretty similar to his role as a father who would do anything to protect his daughters on “Meet the Parents” and “Meet the Fockers”) who would do anything to stop his grandson from marrying the wrong woman.

Deutch is also known for starring as Eliza Sawyer in the hit TV series “Switched at Birth.” Deutch was also cast as Emily Asher in “Beautiful Creatures,” and she also took on the role of the Blue Mask Girl in “Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior.” Zeutch has just recently filmed the baseball flick, “That’s What I’m Talking About,” directed by Richard Linklater.

Efron, who debuted and was famously known for his role in Disney channel’s original movie, “High School Musical,” has recently starred in the hit comedies, such as “Neighbors” and “That Awkward Moment.”

On Sept. 9, 2014, Lionsgate announced Dec. 25, 2015 as the release date for “Dirty Grandpa,” along with the announcement of the sequel, “Now You See Me 2,” which is set to be released on June 10, 2016.

Dan Mazer will direct “Dirty Grandpa” from a script by John Phillips. Dan Mazer has previously filmed “I Give it a Year” and “Da Ali G Show.” Mazer has also worked as a writer alongside Sacha Baron Cohen in “Bruno,” “Borat” and “The Dictator.”

“Dirty Grandpa” will be released alongside Fox’s movie “Joy,” which stars Jennifer Lawrence and directed by Russell Crowe and “Mission: Impossible 5.” The movie will also compete with Fox and DreamWorks Animation’s “Kung Fu Panda 3,” which will air two days prior to the debut of “Dirty Grandpa.”
