12 Monkeys Recap: Tomorrow

12 Monkeys” Season 1 Episode 9 “Tomorrow” aired on Friday, Mar. 13, 2015 at 9:00 p.m. Cole reunites with Cassie in 2017, but it seems it’s too late. Jones’ true objectives are revealed. Find out what happened in this episode below.

Cole remains stranded somewhere in Chechnya in 2017. While roaming the town, he sees Cassie. She’s on television, requesting people who are immune to the virus to head to Baltimore CDC for their study. Cole tries to figure out how to get to her and comes across a group of people waiting to cross a border. One of the soldiers recognizes Cole because of his West Seven tattoo and he’s allowed in. The soldier won’t tell him any reasons, only that he’s going to be brought back from America.

Cole finally arrives in Baltimore CDC. There’s a glimpse of Jennifer Goines outside picketing and enjoining the public to their “army.” When Cassie sees Cole in her lab, they hug. But Cole notices that she’s sick. She thought they were able to stop the virus in 2015, but it seems it is impossible now. The truth of the matter is their paths cannot be changed.

As Cassie continues to weaken, she explains that she has so much to tell him; so much went on. She gives him a paper with an address and says the answers will be there. Cassie collapses and dies eventually. The mark on her watch, which is proof of the timelines and paradoxes, disappears.

Meanwhile, Cole feels he’s about to splinter to 2043, as he holds Cassie’s dead hands.

There’s a flashback to 2041 happening in between the storylines before Cole and Ramse became part of Jones’ time-hopping operation.

The two are wandering off a compound when they come across armed men. They are detained and then tortured and interrogated later. Jones arrives and declares that she has been waiting for Cole. She lets him listen to Cassie’s recording of how they have to stop the virus. He wonders – is he supposed to know her? She explains everything and offers Cole the mission in exchange for their lives, but Cole tells Jones to go to hell.

However, Ramse convinces him to stay and do what Jones’ asks. It’s better than constantly running away and struggling to survive. But Cole still refuses. Ramse had no recourse but force Cole. He sides with Jones.

In 2043, Jones tells her team that Foster’s research about the plague is not going to be the focus; it will not help them. What will help them is to find a way to bring back Cole from 2017 and proceed with time-hopping?

Meanwhile, Ramse goes back to Foster’s lab to convince her former lover Elena to leave. He fears there’s going to be a war between Foster and Jones. He has to make sure Elena and their son are safe. However, before they could leave, Ramse is caught by the guard. He got locked in the lab along with Elena and their young boy.

Whitley, one of Jones’ men, attempts to talk to his father, who is the head of Foster’s security. They talked about their plan against Foster. As this is happening, Jones arrives to tell Foster that she’s no longer bargaining. She’s going to get the core in “whatever way,” so that they can continue with time-hopping. This way, it turns out, is another coup. Whitley was able to convince his father into joining Jones’ side. They will do it by killing anyone else who are not aligned with them. Jones, by the way, puts the bullet on Foster and kills him.

After successfully pulling off the coup, Jones gains the new core and tells her team to get to work. Ramse and Elena, however, are finding a way to get out of this whole mess. Elena thinks it was wrong to kill Foster. He had been working on a cure, belying what Jones had been telling her team.

Turns out, Elena was right and Jones is actually up to something. Jones burns this proof, though, leaving no trace of any research about a cure. It’s an act that chips away another core to her character in that she’ll do whatever it takes to lay out her plans. Perhaps because she believes that she will be able to correct the timeline and everything will reset as if nothing happened. That’s her true goal. Because then, her daughter would be alive again.

With the new core in place, Jones immediately sets a course to retrieve Cole, who leaves 2017 with Cassie already dead.

Cole sees Ramse upon his return and his best friend divulges to him about Elena, his son and Foster’s work. They have to stop Jones’ madness. But knowing what Cole has seen since, he tells Ramse he can’t. He has to continue with time-hopping and save Cassie. He sides with Jones.
