“12 Monkeys,” the adventure thriller adapted from the movie with the same title, will officially start filming in Toronto, Canada on Aug. 6, 2014. Along with stars already confirmed to be in the series — such as Aaron Stanford (Cole), Amanda Schull (Dr. Cassandra Railly), Kirk Acevedo (Ramse) and Noah Bean (Aaron Marker) — two other actors have been enlisted for the show. As announced via the press release published on Zap2it, “12 Monkeys” has added Tom Noonan (“Hells on Wheels”) and Emily Hampshire (“Rookie Blue”) in recurring roles.

Noonan will play a character who is described as a mysterious villain, a bit intimidating, shrewd and intelligent, from whom this whole conspiracy of the Army of the 12 Monkeys will revolve. The actor is most noted for his role as the serial killer in the Michael Mann movie “Manhunter.” He has pretty much proven himself to be a good choice for playing baddie roles.

Hampshire is cast as Jennifer Goines, described as “a dangerous, unstable mental patient,” who knows the mystery behind the conspiracy. In the film version, this character was played by Brad Pitt (as Jeffrey Goines). The actress, who grew up in Canada, is best known for her work on “Cosmopolis” and will soon headline the Canadian sitcom “Schitt’s Creek,” alongside Eugene Levy (“American Pie”).

Based on the blockbuster movie released in 1995, “12 Monkeys” centers on a time traveler, Cole (Standard), who comes from the year 2043 to return to the present day in order to find, as well as prevent the source of a plague that will threaten human life in the future. The sci-fi action thriller expounds on themes like destiny, fate and love, and even second chances.

As the series will begin its production in Canada on Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2014, we should expect more cast announcements coming up. The writers of the show are all but ready to get this project underway, as posted in their Twitter account.

“12 Monkeys” is produced by Atlas Entertainment headed by Charles Roven, who is also the producer of the movie version. Natalie Chaidez will serve as the showrunner with Terry Matalas and Travis Ficket as co-writers.

So there you have it for the production of the upcoming series “12 Monkeys” will commence on Aug. 6, 2014 in Canada. The series is tentatively set for airing in January 2015 on SyFy. For more about this show, keep on checking Movie News Guide (MNG).
