The 2014 TV Choice Awards handed out trophies for the best of British television last Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2014. Among the biggest winners were “Sherlock,” “Happy Valley” and “EastEnders.” Find out the rest of the shows that made it to the winners’ list in the news story below.

Sherlock” was awarded the Best Drama Series at this year’s TV Choice Awards, besting competitions like “Downton Abbey,” “Call the Midwife” and “Waterloo Road.” The show is heading to its fourth year on television. Its lead star, Benedict Cumberbatch, won the Best Actor award, beating nominees like David Tennant (“The Escape Artist”), Allen Leech (“Downton Abbey”) and Bradley Walsh (“Law & Order: UK”).

Newcomer “Happy Valley,” a clear favorite, won the award for Best New Drama, while lead actress Sarah Lancaster won Best Actress in the category. She was also on hand at the event to give away the awards.

Perennial winner “EastEnders” took home numerous awards in the Soap Opera category. The show, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2015, was also given the prestigious Outstanding Contribution Award for being on the air for the last three decades.

HBO’s “Game of Thrones” was picked as the Best International Show.

  • Best Factual Entertainment and Lifestyle Show – “Educating Yorkshire”
  • Best Daytime Show – “The Jeremy Kyle Show”
  • Best Food Show – “Gordon Ramsay’s Home Cooking”
  • Best International Show – “Game of Thrones”
  • Special Contribution to Television – “EastEnders”
  • Special Contribution to Television – “Ant and Dec”

Held at the London Hilton at Park Lane, the 2014 TV Choice Awards was hosted by David Mitchell. The honor is given annually by TV Choice Magazine and was voted on by its subscribers.
