5 Seconds of Summer band members have received lots of hate ever since they set their feet on One Direction concert. Although they may not be that very vocal about it, they are more than aware that they not only targeted due to their music but also personally.
Movie News Guide previously reported that 5SOS opened up about their haters from One Direction supporters. The band members namely, Ashton Irwin, Luke Hemmings, Calum Hood and Michael Clifford addressed how these fans throw shades to them.
In their Billboard Magazine interview, the 19-year-old guitarist, Clifford recalled how Directioners made comments on their first ever stage performance with One Direction—“there were shitloads” of fans being like “F*ck this band, these guys are all sh*t-ugly dipsh*ts. What are they doing on tour with One Direction, my perfect babies?”
Moving on, in Sugarscape reported that 5SOS has opened up once again how they deal with the harsh criticism they received as a band and as an individual member of 5SOS.
Clifford admitted that due to negative comments he always received online from those people who don’t even bother to know him as a person and not just a mere band member of 5SOS led him to do counselling.
In their Daily Star interview, Clifford said: “Yeah we’ve had counselling.”
The young guitarist revealed that each band members talked to people all the time, however, in his part, talking to his parents id the “best thing” for him as he is much closer to them than anyone else.
Clifford went on by saying, “You find your own ways to deal with it.” “When we started we were just four kids from the middle of butt f**k nowhere in Sydney,” he added.
As the interview went on, Clifford described how it was like to deal with cyber-bullying. He expressed that they didn’t even realized that there were actually so many people out there who would put so much effort just to pull you down. There were even people who managed to make them believe that their group would only last for six months.
Clifford said, “It’s impossible not to start doubting yourself, but bitch we are still here!”
Though Clifford is one of the members who usually received hate from the public because of his unusual style, he stayed calmed and positive though it was clearly hard for him. The band member admitted that they had “huge highs and lows” but since he is surrounded by three of his best buddies, it really helped him a lot to survive.
