The boys of 5 Seconds of Summer (5SOS) are working on something HUGE for the fans. Luke Hemmings, Calum Hood, Ashton Irwin and Michael Clifford were reportedly working on their latest album with an artist who co-wrote some of Katy Perry’s biggest hits such as “California Gurls,” “Teenage Dream” and “Roar.”
According to Digital Spy, 5SOS is doing a collaboration with singer-songwriter Bonnie McKee, who has also worked with Britney Spears, Kelly Clarkson and Leona Lewis.
McKee shared the news on her Instagram page. She posted a photo with Irwin with the caption: “Just writing songs about sexy stuff.”
Recently, Joel and Benji Madden, of the Madden Brothers, has also hinted on a possible collaboration after posting a photo with Irwin and Hemmings.
In a previous interview with Billboard, Irwin hinted that 5SOS was planning to release an album within the year. He explains that they have been busy touring with One Direction for the past months, which was why they haven’t had the time to go back to the studio just yet.
“I think when you’re on the road you’ve got to just live out what’s happening, then when you get back to the studio you’ve got a lot to write about. I don’t want to write the same album again, so I go out there and see what life has for me, and then I’ll go back and I’ll write about it,” Irwin told Billboard.
The 5SOS drummer added that they were very grateful of the opportunity to open for One Direction. He says the band has gained confidence on what it feels like playing for a huge crowd. Irwin added that he wanted fans to know 5SOS as a band who “put on an experience” in each live show for their fans.
Their self-titled album debuted at no.1 on the Billboard 200 when it was released on July 22, 2014. According to Billboard, the album was the third-largest debut of 2014, selling 259,000 in its first week.
