All good things must come to an end… but not without us laughing first.
Sunday’s 72nd Golden Globes will be the third and, sadly, the last time that comic giants Tina Fey and Amy Poehler will be hosting the ceremony.
The awesome twosome of Fey and Poehler have laid out their game plan for hosting the 72nd Golden Globes this year. In a video released by NBC, the blooper-reel-style focused on the funny ladies’ allure along with some funny edits, instead of their comic repertoire. The mock interview also showed what they will be doing. Fey promised that she will be doing the Globes differently, stating the she’s “not gonna dope.” On the other hand, Poehler wants the Globes this year to be more of a “Hunger Games” style awards show, to see who really wants it.
Normally, other comedians would not be able to pull this stunt, but the Fey’s “no doping” promise goes well not just because of her but also due to the quick edit cut. Poehler’s gag about the Hollywood Foreign Press and its members being spirits from the netherworld would sound like a bad joke dished out by a news anchor, but her wide-eyed execution makes it seamless and not contrived.
Overall, the promotional video achieved its goal. It’s true that most award shows are long and tend to be awkward, coupled with flat writing. But it could still work if the hosts are good, or if they are Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.
