“A Separation” Sold $67000 In US

“A Separation” is an Iranian film directed by Asghar Farhadi . It won several important prizes from international festivals in 2011 including Berlin International Film Festival and Durban International Film Festival . Asghar Farhadi received “Golden Berlin Bear” title in 2011 Berlin festival . Also Leila Hatami and Peyman Moaadi are starring in this movie as Simin and Nader respectively . The story of this film is about a married couple facing with a difficult decision to improve the life of their child by moving to another country or to stay in Iran and look after a deteriorating parent who has Alzheimers.

In the first week of 2012 only 3 films showed in US and Canada limitedly including “The Iron Lady” , “A Separation” and “Despicable Me” .

“The Iron Lady” sold about $221800 in four cinemas , $55400 in average which is somehow good statistic . Meryl Streep starring in this film as the former PM of UK Margaret Hilda Thatcher . This film has been criticized by the current PM David Cameron However he admired Meryl  for her act.

The showing of “A Separation” started in three cinemas of Los Angeles  and New York from 30th of December . In the first three days it sold $66600 , $22200 in average . There are many Iranian residing in these two states especially Los Angeles  .

And the third film “Despicable Me” sold $49700 in four cinemas .

“A Separation”  is presenting in North America by Sony Pictures Classics . The company also have presented “Persepolis” movie in 2007 . Iran cultural ministry called “Persepolis” as an “Anti Iran” movie .

“A Separation” (Persian: جدایی نادر از سیمین, translit. Jodái-e Náder az Simin) will also compete in 84th Academy Award as the Iran representative and selected movie.
