Medical dramas are selling like hotcakes this selling and pitching season. Adding to this is ABC’s newest acquisition, a medical drama with a conspiracy thriller take entitled “Cold Blood”. Read on to learn more about this story.
According to Deadline, “Cold Blood” is described as a medical drama that is reminiscent of “The Firm.” The story follows the newest addition to New York Memorial Hospital, Dr. Cara West, who joins the team after one of their doctors went missing. Throughout her stay at the hospital, she soon realizes that the doctors there often cross the boundaries of bioethics in order to save their patient’s lives, thus highlighting how a doctor’s decision affects the patient and others.
The series will be produced by Janine Sherman Barrios, who has an overall deal with ABC Studios. The new series is a perfect fit for Barrios, as she has produced several television shows that deal with medical and police procedural themes. Some of the television series she has produced includes the police procedural television series “Criminal Minds” (2011 to 2014), the hit medical drama “Emergency Room (ER)” (2007 to 2009) and “Third Watch”, which centered around police officers, paramedics and firemen, from 2001 to 2005.
She will also executive produce the series, alongside Aaron Kaplan of Kapital Entertainment.
Aaron Kaplan has produced television shows such as “The Neighbors” (2012 to 2014), “Chasing Life” (2014), “The Inbetweeners” (2012), “GCB” (2012), and “Terra Nova” (2011).

ABC has two medical projects planned- a medical advocate drama from David Marshall Grant, and a project from Amy Holden Jones. NBC got their hands full with Eva Longoria’s medical drama “Critical” with John Glenn and Katie Lovejoy. Fox, on the other hand, has the medical coming of age story “Red Band Society”, and “The Cure” from Malcolm Gladwell and Glenn Gordon Caron.
