We’re no mind readers, but have you been curious about your date’s idea about you? Well, ABC gives us the chance to delve into the unfiltered thoughts of the dating world with “Manhattan Love Story.” It airs on Tuesdays at 8:00 p.m. on ABC as part of the network’s schedule for 2014 fall TV season. Check out our preview about “Manhattan Love Story,” plus a first look at the show’s trailer.
The upcoming half-hour romantic comedy is created and written by “John Tucker Must Die” writer Jeff Lowell. He joins Peter Traugott (“Samantha Who?”), Robin Schwartz, Rachel Kaplan and Jon Liebman as executive producers of ABC’s upcoming comedy series.
According to the show’s synopsis posted on ABC, “Manhattan Love Story” stars Analeigh Tipton as Dana, a new Manhattan transplant from the south. She leaves her southern side to find her calling in the busy publishing world in New York. Her brave decision boosts her image as an independent woman in the modern world. However, don’t let her confident aura fool you as she has her own insecurities over simple things.
She starts off her journey with the help of her college friend, Amy (Jade Catta-Preta from “Californication”), who is now happily married with her perfect husband, David (Nicolas Wright of “Accidentally on Purpose”). Unfortunately, Dana’s happy Manhattan days will be in danger again.
This time, Dana’s skills on dating will now be put to the test. An entangled connection has given her the chance to date Peter (Jake McDorman), who is David’s brother.
Dana and Peter have different views on how the dating system works. Dana has her relationship quirks, while Peter’s too suave persona makes him think that he’s a perfect date. The date might have been the endgame for both of them, but they are encouraged to test the waters again for the second time.
They will be joined by Kurt Fuller (“Psych,” “Parenthood”) and newcomer Chloe Wepper (“Criminal Minds”).
“Manhattan Love Story” main stars, Jake McDorman and Analeigh Tipton, had several film and TV roles in the past few years. McDorman was known for his role in “Greek” and “Shameless” as Mike Pratt. His film credits include “Live Free or Die Hard” and “Bring It On: All or Nothing.”
Model-turned-actress Tipton had her share of fame during her stint as a contestant for Tyra Banks’ “America’s Next Top Model” Cycle 11, where she nabbed the third place.
It was followed by a spot at HBO’s “Hung” and a guest-starring gig in “Big Bang Theory.” She had also been featured in supporting roles in star-studded romantic comedy movies such as Jonathan Levine‘s “Warm Bodies” and “Crazy, Stupid, Love” with Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling, Julianne Moore, Emma Stone and Kevin Bacon.
In an interview with Complex, Tipton shared that her ANTM stint was something she just stumbled upon.
“I actually moved out to L.A. for writing and directing, and I acted all through growing up. But, for my family, it wasn’t exactly the career path that was going to be supported. Modeling is like… If somebody offers you a free trip to Hawaii, you kind of take it. Modeling was my free trip to Hawaii. It was an experience that sounded like fun for a 19-year-old, and it was. It was a blast,” said Tipton in the Complex interview.
In other news, Deadline previously posted that the series have been ordered by the network along with new comedies such as “Black-ish”, “Selfie” and “Galavant.” They will join other ABC shows like Marvel’s “Agent Carter“, “How to Get Away with Murder,” “American Crime,” “The Whispers” and “Forever.”
