Adele is certainly on a roll these days! After releasing her very first single in three years, the Grammy Award-winning singer is now set to return to the “Saturday Night Live” stage next month.
The 27-year old Adele is making sure that her comeback is a memorable one. Her latest single, “Hello,” which will be part of the upcoming album “25,” had been well-received by both critics and fans. She herself was in tears when the song dropped on the radio last month, admitting that she is anxious people might not like it as much as her previous singles. But she had nothing to worry about. If positive critical responses and first day sales records — the single hit 750,000 downloads on its first day, says Idolator — are not enough proof, then maybe her upcoming guesting on “Saturday Night Live” is.
This November 21, Adele will be returning on the NBC comedy show as a musical guest, sharing the guesting credits with Matthew McConaughey. Adele’s first (and only) appearance on Studio 8H was back in 2008, when her album “19” catapulted to the top of the iTunes charts right after. And rightfully so, as the guesting was phenomenal.
At that time, Adele performed her singles “Chasing Pavements” and “Cold Shoulder” and lead to one of the highest-rated episodes of “SNL” in 14 years. Sure, the ratings could largely be in part of Tina Fey’s portrayal as Sarah Palin and the other funny sketches of the cast members but Adele’s musical guesting also added to the flair. No doubt about it, especially if one looks at how the song “Chasing Pavements” suddenly shot up to no. 11 from no. 46.
Adele’s last guesting on “SNL” made such a mark that Entertainment Weekly listed it as one of the show’s most memorable musical performances. With the reaction “Hello” is getting as of late, no doubt the upcoming one will be just as memorable.
Watch Adele back on “Saturday Night Live” this Nov. 21, 11:30 p.m. on NBC.
