The episode picked up from where it left off, with Agent Jemma Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge) explaining to Agent Leo Fitz (Iain de Caestecker) what had happened to her on the planet she had gotten transported to, and explained why she had to go back.

Six months ago, after she got sucked into the monolith, she discovered herself on a sunless planet with two moons.

At first, being the scientist that she was, she began to record and take pictures of what she was currently experiencing, and talked out loud to Fitz’s picture every so often. It later on served as an anchor of hope for her.

She then tried to sleep, and after getting slightly buried in a dust storm, she discovered a small water hole, which she immediately headed to in order to finally drink some water, and to be able to soak in it for a little while.

However, this was quickly interrupted as she suddenly was grabbed by an alien life form. She managed to kill and used it as food, as she hadn’t eaten for several days. She then used herself as bait in order to get more of it and lit a fire so that she would be able to cook the meat of the alien life form. Her recordings on her cell phone then started to become less and less because even though Fitz had built the battery well enough so that it could last for a long period of time, she needed to conserve its battery for when she really needed it.

A little later, she ended up falling into a trap after hearing a strange noise in the distance. She found herself inside a cage with food and water left for her in a bowl. She then recognized that her captor was human and decided to run away from him after creating an opportunity to do so. However, as her leg got cut while she was running, and as a dust storm was coming their way, he grabbed her, and brought her back into his shelter for safety.

He then introduced himself as Will (Dillon Casey), an astronaut with NASA who had come there with three other scientists in 2001. However, his companions slowly died after being driven mad by a monster that comes with the dust storms on the planet.

As Simmons began to settle down on the planet, she decided to explore the most dangerous part of the planet. She was confronted by the creature in the dust storm, which she escaped, and found a sextant, which, along with Will’s computer. She repaired it and helped her figure out that the portal’s movements were controlled by the planets moons, and that it would open in two week’s time. When that happened, they planned to send out a message in a bottle so that Fitz could figure out how to get them back.

However, when the time came, they realized that they had underestimated how wide a particular canyon that they had to cross was, so they tried harpooning the bottle into the portal, but they were too late. It closed before it could go through. Simmons then began to lose all hope, but Will comforted her, and the two began to have a relationship with each other.

After several months, as the two were enjoying a rare sunrise, Simmons saw a flare go out, and realized that it had been sent by Fitz.

The pair then walked into a dust storm, and Will fended off the creature so that Simmons could run and be rescued by the waiting Fitz.

Back at S.H.I.E.L.D., Fitz decided to help Simmons get Will back for her sake.

Recently, actress Elizabeth Henstridge talked to Entertainment Weekly about her character’s conflicted emotions for the two men who are now in her life. She mentioned that she was a little bit scared about what the reactions of the fans of FitzSimmons would be.

She mentioned that Simmons has always loved Fitz, but that she and Will had gotten together in a “pure and primal” moment.

Also, she mentioned that this project will cause some tension between the two moving forward, and mentioned that the identity of the creature will also be revealed in the future.

Next week’s focus, according to the official press release, will shift gears back to the main story line. Agent Lance Hunter (Nick Blood) and Agent Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen) are now on a warpath on the hunt for HYDRA head Grant Ward (Brett Dalton) in “Among Us Hide…”; while Agent Daisy Johnson (Chloe Bennet) and Director Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) begin to realize that Rosalind Price’s (Constance Zimmer) is holding back some information from them.
