In just a few more days, the fall television season will be returning in full force, which also means that MARVEL’s fall television mainstay, MARVEL’s “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” will return, welcoming fans and viewers back to the MARVEL television universe, which also allows fans of MARVEL to have something to watch while waiting for MARVEL and Netflix’s “Jessica Jones” in November and while waiting for the return of “Agent Carter” in January 2016. However, according to the many reports regarding the upcoming third season, it seems like the third season will be quite an interesting ride, with new foes and allies, and, of course, returning villains, such as HYDRA and double agent Grant Ward (Brett Dalton). WARNING: This article will contain spoilers regarding the upcoming third season of “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” Read on to learn more about what to expect in the upcoming third season, with regards to Agent Daisy Johnson, S.H.I.E.L.D., HYDRA, and Grant Ward (Brett Dalton).
Just recently, TV Line released an exclusive featurette featuring actor Brett Dalton. He portrays the duplicitous Grant Ward, who gave an exclusive behind the scenes sneak peek as to what fans and viewers might expect from Ward and HYDRA this upcoming season.
In the video, Dalton previewed one of the very first few scenes in which he appears in in the third season. He is dangerously driving a black convertible across a parking lot with HYDRA recruits standing beside the parking lot level’s columns. The clip further goes on to explain that a man is clinging on for dear life to the windshield of the car that Ward is driving, while Ward explains to him what exactly HYDRA is now.
According to a recent interview that Entertainment Weekly had with executive producers Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen, the fact that Ward is the head of HYDRA might not yet be known by S.H.I.E.L.D. Director Phil Coulson (Greg Clark) and his team yet, but the two stated that Ward will be even more of a threat to them this upcoming season.
With regards to Chloe Bennet’s character, one could say that her physical transformation into the iconic Agent Daisy Johnson from the “Secret Warriors” comic book is quite complete. Not only did Bennet cut her hair shorter, she was given a new tactical suit that pays direct homage to Johnson from the comics.
According to the official website of MARVEL, costume designer Ann Foley drew inspiration from Johnson’s or Quake’s look in the comics, and tried to incorporate as much of it as possible in Bennet’s new costume. This was done by adding the Quake symbol into her gauntlets, as well as well as at the back portion of the suit. She also added the gold color in her suit in the comics by placing gold lines on the suit.
As for where the third season will be picking up from, according to the interview with Tancheroen and Whedon on Entertainment Weekly, they stated that the season will pick up three months after they lost Agent Jemma Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge), and that the fallout of her absence will be seen in the beginning of the season.
They also mentioned that building up the new “Secret Warriors” team with Daisy and with Agent Alphonse “Mack” Mackenzie (Henry Simmons), the “Scully and Mulder” of the series, will definitely take some time, especially as new and old threats. HYDRA and Ward will keep on popping up, and disturbing them from the task at hand, as Tancheroen and Whedon describe that the current team is actually on “emergency mode.”
Aside from this, Whedon and Tancheroen mentioned that one of the major themes of the season is the exploration of what humanity or Inhumanity is; and of course, relationships and couples, as the cast is big enough, and since most of the team members of S.H.I.E.L.D. have known each other for quite some time now.
