The Philippine entertainment industry has indeed hit a gold mine with the love team pair of actor Alden Richards and Maine “Yaya Dub” Mendoza, who are also otherwise known by their love team name, “AlDub.” This time, however, the love team pair and their co-stars in the “Kalye Serye” or street drama segment in the variety show “Eat Bulaga,” are out to prove that not only are they a national phenomenon, but that they can also be a force of good in this world, as seen in their plans for the “AlDub- Sa Tamang Panahon” (“AlDub-At the Right Moment”) event that will be happening this coming Saturday, Oct. 24, 2015 at the Philippine Arena. Read on to learn more about the event, and how the “AlDub” team are turning it into something that will directly benefit the nation and its citizens.
The “AlDub” phenomenon, which consists of the scripted love team pair Maine “Yaya Dub” Mendoza and actor Alden Richards in one of the street drama or “kalye serye” segments of the variety show “Eat Bulaga” has indeed taken the national and international entertainment community by storm.
Another indicator of the success of the accidental love team is the fact that according to the Philippine Star and Manila Bulletin, just right after the event was announced, tickets were snapped up like hotcakes. According to the report on the Philippine Star, as of today, the authorized ticket dealer for the concert has sold around 30,000 tickets over the weekend, and is expected to sell even more tickets that the recent Katy Perry Concert that was held in the same venue, at the Philippine Arena in Bulacan.
However, despite it being one of the biggest concerts or events that “Eat Bulaga” has organized in its entire history, the event will also be a benefit concert. The proceeds from the tickets, according to Manila Bulletin, will be going towards the construction of libraries all over the country.
According to the Philippine Star, Lola Nidora or Grandmother Nidora, who is portrayed by comedian Wally Bayola, one of the characters in the street drama, mentioned that they had decided to turn the event into a benefit concert in order to prove that the highly popular street drama isn’t just all about romance.
Nidora also mentioned that this concert is also the perfect time for Filipinos to gather together and to practice the spirit of “Bayanihan”, or acting together as a community in order to achieve a goal, which, in this case, is to improve literacy, through the planned libraries.
According to Manila Bulletin, the love team, and their co-stars aren’t the only ones who are being a little bit philanthropic in nature. It has been reported that fans of the love team have also banded together for different causes.
One group decided to organize a blood donation drive for the Philippine Red Cross, and another group of fans organized a book drive for indigenous children in Mindanao, who are currently displaced due to the rampant fighting between the New People’s Army and the Philippine Military.
