On the celebration of the 21st anniversary of her ABC special, “10 Most Fascinating People”, Barbara Walters announced this year’s list during her two-hour special on Sunday, Dec. 14, 2014, and topping everyone else is George Clooney’s wife Amal Alamuddin.

During an appearance on “The View” on Friday, Dec. 12, 2014, Walters revealed seven of the 10 people on her list, namely Taylor Swift, Oprah Winfrey, Neil Patrick Harris, Chelsea Handler, Michael Strahan, Scarlett Johansson and David Koch. She left out the top three to be revealed at the special itself.

Finally on Sunday, she revealed the rest of the people on her list to be novelist George R.R. Martin, and Paypal and Tesla Motors co-founder Elon Musk. Topping her list is London-based lawyer Amal Alamuddin, who just married Hollywood actor George Clooney last September 2014

With regards to choosing her as the Most Fascinating Person of 2014 on her list, Walters pointed out Alamuddin’s achievements as a lawyer and an activist. Lastly, she described her as Clooney’s “perfect match,” in reference to his previous relationships. She cited the couple’s strong commitment to human rights causes.

According to Walters, what strongly made her place Alamuddin on her list’s top spot was her marriage to Clooney.

“We, like George Clooney, find it impossible to resist perfection, or maybe because it is heartening to think that no matter how long it may take, the perfect someone is out there for everyone. And that, for us, makes her the most fascinating person of 2014,” said Walters, as published on the Independent.

Unlike most of the list’s top placers like last year’s Hillary Clinton, Alamuddin was not able to appear in the show for an interview. Although, the rest of the people named in the list, like Taylor Swift and Oprah Winfrey, were interviewed and were shown in the special.

Walters described described the special to be “the longest one we have had, and I think the best one we have had.” And yet, in the conclusion of the special, she said it will probably be one of her last.
