Amal Alamuddin Clooney — international lawyer, human rights activist and fashionista — also happens to be George Clooney’s bride. ABC’s Barbara Walters just named her the “Most Fascinating Person of 2014.” Did this successful woman marry beneath her when she hitched her star to George?
A graduate of Oxford and NYU, British-born Amal is also fluent in three languages: English, Arabic and French. She’s clerked at the United States Court of Appeals, worked with highly respected judges, served as advisor to the United Nations on the Syria and Lebanon crises and represented a host of high-profile clients like WikiLeaks founder, Julian Assange, and Ukraine prime minister, Yulia Tymoshenko.
Is marrying George Clooney just a minor feather on her multidecorated cap?
True, George is a debonair dreamboat, a critically acclaimed actor and a noted activist. But what he is most known for is his string of girlfriends and his imperviousness to marriage hints (world’s most sought-after bachelor, remember?). Now that he’s married to Amal, he’s just another humanitarian actor in Hollywood. Looks like the former bachelor can now be called Mr. Amal Alamuddin.
His missus, meanwhile, apart from being much-photographed for her exotic Eastern beauty and her forward fashion sense housed in a Hollywood-svelte body, is also active in the international movement for the protection of children in high conflict zones, particularly in the Gaza Strip, where indiscriminate rape and other sexual violent acts take place.
The 36-year-old Lebanese beauty is known for choosing highly controversial projects, like the property disputes over the Greek Parthenon sculptures that are now on display at the British National Museum, which have catapulted her brand front and center.
Curiously enough, even before and after her marriage to George Clooney, Amal has had no controversy or stigma attached to her name. She’s basically a good girl, an intelligent and compassionate overachiever who happens to dress well and is married to a famous actor.
Broadcast journalist and television personality, Barbara Walters has even put Amal’s star power at par with Princess Diana, Jackie Onassis and Kate Middleton. Because, hey, even if she did become a target of media attention by marrying a rich and famous man, she’s still a badass in her own right.
