“The Amazing Spiderman 2” Movie Review:
“The Amazing Spider-Man 2” stars Andrew Garfield in the titular role, along with real-life girlfriend Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy. It is directed by Marc Webb.
According to the Internet Movie Database (IMDb), the other stars of the movie include Jamie Foxx (Electro / Max Dillon), Dane DeHaan (Green Goblin / Harry Osborn), Campbell Scott (Richard Parker), Embeth Davidtz (Mary Parker), Colm Feore (Donald Menken), Paul Giamatti (Aleksei Sytsevich), Sally Field (Aunt May).
“The Amazing Spider-Man 2” has got amazing special effects! It is so visually stunning! Plus, the all-star cast fit their roles to a T. It is a different treatment from the “Spiderman” movies that starred Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst. Although theirs was a well-loved series of “Spiderman” movies, “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” is more faithful to the comic book’s storyline, especially about Peter and Gwen’s romance.
It’s also interesting to see real-life couple Garfield and Stone onscreen and their chemistry is obvious. Their acting is very natural and effortless. Garfield is lanky and it makes him more believable as Spiderman than the muscular Tobey Maguire.
The supporting cast is stellar and adds so much to the movie’s overall quality. Props to Sally Field and Jamie Foxx as well as Paul Giamatti for their excellent performances in the film.
“The Amazing Spider-Man 2” has all the elements of an amazing movie. It not only has amazing special effects, great acting and a stellar supporting cast, it also has a very exciting and engaging plot, filled with action, suspense, drama, romance and even a bit of comedy.

The story of the Spiderman sequel begins when Scientist Richard Parker explains his disappearance by recording a video message. Later that night, he and his wife boarded a private jet only to be taken hostage by a man who was sent to kill Richard. There was a struggle. Then, it was revealed that the pilot is already dead, so the plane crashed.
Peter Parker a.k.a. Spiderman, is the son of Richard Parker. He continues to fight evil. Speaking of which, the first evil guy on the scene is shown as Aleksei Sytsevich (Paul Giamatti), who tries to steal a truck containing plutonium vials. The chase leads to rescuing Max Dillon (Jamie Foxx), employee of OsCorp Industries.
Meanwhile, as Peter was talking to Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone) over the phone, he sees a vision of her father, police captain George Stacy (Denis Leary) telling him to not involve Gwen in his world. Because he never forgets to keep his promise to her father, he ended the relationship with Gwen.
Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), childhood friend of Peter, returns to Manhattan to see his dying father Norman (Chris Cooper), CEO of OsCorp. Norman revealed to Harry that his illness could be passed on to Harry since it’s genetic and he gives him a tiny device that contains his life’s work.
The following day, Norman died and Harry assumed his father’s throne as the new CEO of OsCorp. His father was secretly working on biogenetic projects for foreign military powers.
Max idolizes Spider-Man after saving his life as he assumes that they’re already friends. While he was working in the laboratory, he got into an accident and fell into a tank of genetically modified electric eels. Creepy! As the eels attacked him, he changed into a living electric generator. He even strayed into Times Square where he accidentally caused a blackout. The police were alarmed and fired at Max causing him to lose his temper that he tried to attack. But, Spider-Man saves the day and Max is taken to Ravencroft Institute.
Harry on the other hand was showing signs of illness that he inherited from his father. He urged Peter to help him find Spider-Man knowing that Spider-Man’s blood could help save his life. While all of this is happening, the OsCorp board-members were scheming on something by framing Harry for hiding Max’s accident. It led to Harry’s removal as CEO of OsCorp.
Harry’s assistant Felicia, conspired with Max to get the suit of armor and other equipment made by Norman as well as the venom that made him transform into a goblin-like creature.
Peter tried to find the video message of his father in a hidden lab located in a deserted subway station. Peter discovered that Richard had to leave because he does not want to participate in Norman Osborn’s projects.
In the meantime, Peter receives a voice mail from Gwen telling him she’s going to England for the scholarship and is on her way to the airport. Peter came rushing to the airport and catches her and professed his love for her.
Electro causes another blackout and Peter battles him and kills him by overloading Electro’s body with power. After that, Harry arrives as the goblin-like creature and kidnaps Gwen but was defeated by Spider-Man as they battled at the top of a clock tower.
The tragic part is that Gwen died despite Spider-Man attempting to save her from the fall. The conclusion of the story is that Harry is recovering from his transformation and his associate helped Sytsevich get out of prison. He hands him an electromechanical suit of armor as he calls himself “Rhino.”
Peter still visits Gwen’s grave. But, he gave up being Spider-Man for quite some time. However, a recording of Gwen’s graduation speech moved him to being Spider-Man again and to fight Rhino.
