The 2014 American Country Countdown Awards held at Music City Center on Monday, Dec. 15, 2014, in Nashville, Tenn. The first annual show featured some special performances by today’s hottest country artists including Carrie Underwood, Miranda Lambert, Luke Bryan and more. Read on for further details.
Carrie Underwood started Nashville's final awards show of the year by performing a medley of five of her hits ("Before He Cheats," "American Girl," "Cowboy Casanova," "Blown Away" and "Something in the Water"). The country diva was broken into tears while performing. The 31-year-old pregnant entertainer was up for the Female Vocalist of the Year award, but the award went to Miranda Lambert.
Luke's poignant speech thanking fans and country music friends for their support following the death of his brother-in-law was a high point at the ceremony. Reba McEntire was honored with the first ever Nash Icon Award. Longtime friend, Kix Brooks, present McEntire with the award.
Reba Nell McEntire is an American country music singer, songwriter and actress sometimes been referred to as "The Queen of Country." Having sold more than 80 million records worldwide she is one of the best-selling artists of all time. She debuted in film during the 1990s in “Tremors.” She was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series–Musical or Comedy for her television sitcom, “Reba.”
“I know you country music fans have really high standards when it comes to the artists you support. There is just no fooling you guys when it comes to integrity and sincerity, and most importantly that God-given talent. I gotta tell you, as somebody who has toured and recorded and sat around living rooms playing music with her, let me tell you, Reba has all of these qualities, and then some. And she’s become one of the lasting success stories forever in country music history. Year after year, she continues to connect the songs and her fans like nobody else,” said Brooks while presenting the award.
After that, Miranda and Kelly Clarkson sang a medley of her hits and performed "Fancy." During the performance, the duo was joined by McEntire, and it was the mesmerizing ambiance as the audience and artists in the audience like Sara Evans, Carrie and Luke sang along. Watching all and sundry sob and sing along to “Fancy” at American Country Countdown Awards 2014 was the best thing that could ever happen at a show. It was indeed a pitch-perfect musical tribute to the icon.
