Things just got real in “American Horror Story: Freak Show” Episode 4 “Edward Mordrake Pt. 2." Elsa's past was revealed as well as what’s behind Twisty’s scary smile. Read on for the full recap.

In this episode, we were able to explore the lives of the freaks much deeper. The Seal Boy got his tattoos all over his body except his face to scare people. The Half-Woman was an orphan who’s very passionate when it comes to the shoes that she wears. If you don’t do it right, she might just stab you just like what she did to someone before.

We learned that Elsa Mars do have a thirst for fame. She wants to be so famous, and she would literally do anything to be famous. She only has one leg. And the reason behind this? Elsa did that on purpose. She let them take off her leg and film it. This is where she got famous through snuff films. This sets Elsa apart from the freaks that she manages because the freaks have physical deformities while her deformity is psychological.

Moreover, this episode revealed that Twisty was not really a bad guy. It turned out that he became like what he is today because of his past. He used to work in a freak show before, but his fellow freaks tormented him and spread rumors that he touched children, so he never got the chance to be a clown. He sulked in his trailer with his clown costume hanging until it got dirty, and he even tried to kill himself by blowing his head off. However, it didn’t work, and that’s why he has a mangled mouth that he covers with a mask.

Everything that Twisty did in the previous episodes made sense now. He killed the owner of the toy store because he was very cruel to him, and he kidnapped a girl to take care of the children that he’s kidnapped. He didn’t kill Dandy or even Gloria because he wanted to please the child who lived there. He did love children, but the whole thing got twisted because of the circumstances that he had. And sadly, he died in this episode. Wes took him to the other side. Twisty was misunderstood.

However, Edward got all the credit for killing Twisty, and the whole town gathered to the freak show to thank him, which means that the freak show is now saved. Meanwhile, Bette and Dot weren’t happy with how things turned out. The two always wants to be the center of attention with their two heads and all, and they were no longer Edward’s number one girl anymore.
