Angelina Jolie-Pitt would be the executive producer of “The Breadwinner,” animated film adaptation of an award-winning novel of the same name written by Deborah Ellis. Read on to get more information.
According to Deadline, Jolie-Pitt and her Jolie Pas Productions will collaborate with Aircraft Pictures, Cartoon Saloon, and Melusine Productions for the movie. “The Breadwinner” is the adaptation of the best-selling young adult novel written by the Canadian author.
Jehane Noujaim, Karim Amer and Gerry Shirren would join Jolie-Pitt as the executive producers. The producers of the movie are Tomm Moore & Paul Young of the Cartoon Saloon, Stephan Roelants of Melusine Productions, and Andrew Rosen & Anthony Leo of Aircraft Pictures. Nora Twomey, co-director of the Oscar-nominee “The Secret of Kells,” would be the director of the film. Ellis would be the screen story writer and Anita Doron would be the screenplay, writer.
The source further reported that “The Breadwinner” film was developed with the support from Telefilm Canada, the Film Fund Luxembourg, the Irish Film Board, the Harold Greenberg Fund, Corus Entertainment, and the Belinda Stronach Foundation. The animated film is currently in pre-production stage and is expected to be completed in early 2017.
“The Breadwinner” revolves around an Afghan girl named Parvana. Living under Taliban rule, she disguised as a boy to become the breadwinner to support her family. It was after her father is put in prison unfairly. The film also reveals the “culture, history and beauty of Afghanistan.”
According to Realty Today, Angelina Jolie wrote and directed “By the Sea,” in which she as well as her husband Brad Pitt has starred. The film is set to be released on Nov. 13, 2015. Besides being the executive producer of “The Breadwinner,” Jolie would also be the director of a Netflix movie that is based “First They Killed My Father: A Daughter of Cambodia Remembers,” a non-fiction book.
