It seems like 29-year-old Anna Kendrick has a full plate these days. After last month’s release of “Pitch Perfect 2” trailer, the young actress is once again seen on another trailer that has recently been released. With the release of the trailer for “The Last Five Years,” it goes to show that Kendrick is returning to her first love—Broadway.
The trailer showcases different scenes from the much anticipated film adaptation of one of the biggest musicals. With this film adaptation, Jason Robert Brown’s “The Last Five Years” features a remarkable trailer that surely has everyone on the edge of their seats.
In the trailer, Kendrick sings some of the hit numbers on the musical. Taking the lead role of Cathy Hiatt, Kendrick plays the role of a struggling actress who recalls her five-year marriage to novelist Jamie Wellerstein (played by Smash’s Jeremy Jordan) through a song. While most love stories start from the beginning, theirs does otherwise. Using different notes and melodramatic lyrics, the couple tells of their heartbreaking love story in reverse, reminiscing through their happier moments and how the doom of their failed romance came to be. Meanwhile, Jamie recounts his story from beginning to the end. The only time their stories meet is in the middle, with a wedding song.
The film adaptation of the musical “The Last Five Years” is directed by Richard LaGravenese, the same director for the movie “P.S. I Love You” and writer for “Water for Elephants.” Other than the lead stars, the film adaptation also features Betsy Wolfe and Natalie Knepp. Wolfe plays as Alise Michaels, a former stripper with a pet snake. The movie is slated for a Feb. 13, 2014 release.
While Kendrick’s fans have this new musical to look forward to, it seems like the actress will also be in two other movies—the first is the pre-mentioned “Pitch Perfect 2,” which is expected to be released in May 2015. The other, “Into the Woods,” promises an earlier release, specifically on Christmas Day. Not only that, Kendrick is scheduled to do three more films: “Digging for Fire,” “The Hollars,” and “Get a Job.”
