After much speculations and nude photo leaks regarding their iCloud, Apple has finally launched the update on its flagship iPhone product with two new models, the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. Read on for further details.
According to The Hollywood Reporter (THR), Apple has announced that both iPhone 6 and 6 Plus are sporting larger screens than their predecessors, along with new details. Both new Apple iPhone products were showcased live at the Flint Center for the Performing Arts in Cupertino.
THR also reported the specs of both phones. The iPhone 6 features a larger 4.7 inch retina HD screen that boasts over 1 million pixels, while iPhone 6 Plus has a 5.5-inch screen with 2 million pixels. Both models feature “Retina HD” displays, a full 1080p HD screen without borders and a glass that covers the entire surface and curves around the edges of the thinner device. The iPhone 6 is 6.8mm thin, while 6 Plus comes at 7.1mm compared to the previous 5s, which was 7.6mm thick.
The phone also features longer battery life, with iPhone 6 boasting a standby time of 10 hours and the 6 plus at 16 hours. For audio playback, iPhone 6 has a battery life of up to 50 hours while 6 plus has 80 hours. The camera is at 8 megapixels but does a better job at recognizing faces and delivers better focus. iPhone 6 includes a digital image stabilization while the 6 plus offers an optical image stabilization. Both models can shoot 1080p quality videos at 30 and 60 fps, and a slow-motion mode. Moreover, both has faster built-in Wi-Fi, along with an A8 chip that makes graphics 84 times faster than the original iPhone. Calls can now also be made via Wi-Fi.
The new models will come in three distinctive colors: gold, silver and space grey. The iPhone 6 model with 16 GB storage comes at $199, while 64GB comes at $299, 128GB will cost $399. Meanwhile the 6 plus comes at $299 for 16GB and $399 and $499 for 64 and 128GB, respectively.
On Sept. 19, 2014, both models will be available first in the U.S. and eight other countries. By the end of the year, they will be available worldwide. The free iOs 8, an updated version made by Apple, will be soon released on Sept. 17, 2014.
Moreover, Apple has also launched Apple Pay, a mobile payment system allowing users to pay online at 220,000 selected retail outlets including Starbucks, McDonalds, Walgreens and Bloomingdales.
The much-anticipated Apple Watch, which will be released in 2015, was also highlighted in the event. It was reported to be used to integrate with the iPhone. The watch will contain sensors that will keep track of one’s heart rate, elevation, distance and more.
