Arrow” Season 3 Episode 1 “The Calm” aired on Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2014, at 8:00 p.m. on The CW. Oliver encountered Count Vertigo and Ray Palmer. Read on to learn more about this episode.

Previously on “Arrow” (Episode 1 “The Calm”), the episode opened with Oliver (Stephen Amell) and Roy (Colton Haynes) on a mission. In their lair, Oliver and Diggle (David Ramsey) had a touching conversation. Diggle reminded him that he told Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) that he loves her. However, he said that it was for Slade (Manu Bennett).

Oliver asked Felicity out for a dinner, and she said yes. While in the middle of the chase, he asked Felicity whether she likes Italian — yes again. Meanwhile, Ray Palmer (Brandon Routh) made an appearance in this episode. He showed up in the store where Felicity is working and bought a gadget to hack a firewall.

When Oliver arrived at the restaurant, Felicity was absolutely stunning! Oliver mentioned to her about his time in Hong Kong, although very brief. He said that he could not trust anybody, for he saw some people as threats.  While talking, an explosion happened, and Felicity was unconscious. Someone managed to track where Oliver was.

Furthermore, Oliver came face to face with Count Vertigo (Peter Stormare). Oliver then felt dizzy, and we saw Count Vertigo looking like Oliver to Oliver (get it?). Detective Lance (Paul Blackthorne) managed to distract Count Vertigo then he suffered from a coronary artery spasm. When Count Vertigo got close to him, Oliver shot him with his arrow.

Meanwhile, just when Oliver was about to wow the board, there was a situation —Palmer showed up as another bidder and greeted Felicity.  In his speech, Oliver ended with a very touching message from his mom: “There’s nothing more important to me than family.” When Palmer presented his piece, it was a very high-tech presentation, with gadgets and all that moving objects on the screen.

Soon the team learned that Count Vertigo and his minions were going to blow a boxing event. Just as when Diggle was ready to go, Oliver stopped him from going to the mission because he is going to be a father. Oliver told him: “My risks can’t be your risks.” Felicity was trying to help Roy stop the bomb. She told him to cut the yellow wire, but there was no yellow wire. She came up with a solution to freeze the bomb, and it was successful.

At the rooftop, Oliver fought with Count Vertigo, but with a little help from Black Canary (Caity Lotz).

In the hospital, Lyla (Audrey Marie Anderson) gave birth to a cute baby girl. Diggle revealed that it changed everything.

While going out of the hospital, Oliver and Felicity had a talk. Felicity told him to say that he never love her, and they kissed! Oliver got back to Felicity by telling her not to ask him to tell her that he does not love her. Felicity ended their conversation with “It’ll be over.”

As for the flashbacks, it was revealed that Oliver was trying to escape his captors in Hong Kong. He rushed into a computer, and just as when he was about to send a message to someone that he was still alive, Yamashiro (Karl Yune) showed up and shot the computer. Before the episode ended, we saw Oliver in Yamashiro’s house, along with his wife Tatsu (Rila Fukushima). Yamashiro revealed that Amanda (Cynthia Addai-Robinson) threatened to harm Yamashiro’s family if he let Oliver run away.
