Will Captain America die in Avengers: Infinity War?

Avengers: Infinity War will see the largest gathering of some of the biggest superheroes on the big screen. In Marvel Entertainment’s upcoming cinematic event, Earth’s Mightiest Heroes will come together to face the universe’s biggest threat to date: Thanos. But, in the war against the Mad Titan, will one fan-favorite hero fall down?

The past two Avengers movies have been, surprisingly, tear-jerkers. And, while this time around the Earth’s Mightiest Heroes will get help from the likes of Doctor Strange, the Guardians of the Galaxy, The Defenders (hopefully), the team will face their biggest and most powerful enemy yet. There is almost certainly going to be some casualties in the full-scale war against Thanos. And, unfortunately, odds are not in favor of Steve Rogers a.k.a Captain America.

For years now, fans have been dreading that this day will come: Chris Evans is nearing the end of his contract with Marvel Entertainment. This means that his character, Steve, will retire soon and/or the title, Captain America, will be passed down to his successor.

Fans expected The Captain to go down earlier this year in Captain America: Civil War. Steve survived his fight against Tony Stark/Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.). Instead, he gave up his shield and found refuge in T’Challa’s (Chadwick Boseman) secret hideout. He has not, however, completely resigned from becoming an Avenger. “So no matter what, I promise you, if you need us, if you need me, I’ll be there,” he told Tony.

Comic Book Movie lists Captain America as one of the heroes who is likely to die in the universe’s war against Thanos. The site predicted: “The movie ending with Steve getting back the shield from Tony only for it to shatter when he faces Thanos (something which again hails from the comic books) would make for an epic piece of imagery.” Moreover, “It also robs The Avengers of their leader but gives them an even greater motivation for fighting.”

Avengers: Infinity War will star Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Hulk, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Ant-Man, Vision, Scarlet Witch and more. It will be released on April 27, 2018.
