Backstrom” Season 1 Episode 7 “Enemy of My Enemies” aired on Thursday, Mar. 5, 2015 at 9:00 p.m. on FOX. The SCU is specifically asked to help in the case of a pipeline bombing, but Backstrom isn’t so keen on the sheriff there. Find out what happened in the recap below.

There’s a series of explosion in the Liberty Pipeline that is messing with the underground pumping station of the community of Cooch County. The sheriff requests the help of the Special Crimes Unit (SCU). Everett Backstrom (Rainn Wilson) thinks is ridiculous. The crime isn’t vandalism, it’s a terrorist act that requires more than just his team’s expertise. When he learns who the sheriff is, Backstrom is even more baffled because why would his estranged father want to work with him?

Yes, Blue Backstrom (Robert Foster) asked for the SCU’s help in tracking down eco-activist Sabine Weiss. But his son wishes that he would die in the next explosion. That’s how much Everett hates his father. Niedermayer (Kristoffer Polaha) convinces Backstrom to take the case and solve it before his dad. Wouldn’t that help exorcise the demons?

The SCU learns that Sabine is a scholar with the Environmental Defense League of Women a.k.a. lesbians according to Backstrom. They interrogate Eleonor Deering, the head of the league. They need to track Sabine’s whereabouts, but she claims she no idea. However, she reveals that Sabine has both Jewish and Indian heritage and Backstrom knows exactly where to check next. They head to the Oxbow Indian Reservation, but they’re barricaded by an old nemesis. Blue breaks up the tussle.

It looks like Backstrom’s father has every intention of making peace with his son, but Everett refuses to even shake Blue’s hand. Is he dying? Why is he doing this?

Amy Gazanian (Sarah Chalke) briefly appears in this episode again. She delivers Backstrom bad news. There are complaints from the Oxbow clan. More than that, she’s really concerned about her ex-fiancé and his reunion with his father.

Back to the case, the SCU finds Graeme Hellman, a geek and tech whiz who has a crush on Sabine. She couldn’t have done this all on her own. Hellman could be just the man who helped her design the bomb. As Backstrom discovers later on, this assumption is true. The team also meets Jim Klassan, Hellman’s boss. He claims he didn’t know about his staff helping Sabine out. He offers a reward for anyone who can find her. It messes up the police’s system as they receive plenty of calls for leads.

Backstrom figures out that anyone hiding Sabine may not actually care for the reward, which means, they would have to be pretty loaded. So, once again, he sets his sights on Deering and the SCU inspects her house. They discover a tool shed with traces of Sabine’s things. Deering feigns surprise that her things are there, but her jig is up.

Backstrom believes that Sabine left Deering to be with Sanford Einhorn from another advocacy group. The police have traces of them in the same locations together. With Nadia (Beatrice Rosen) going undercover, they seek out Einhorn for information. But as Nadia is inexperienced with doing undercover tasks, she fails to draw him out and even upsets him.

The police discovers a second bomb. Upon further inspection, Backstrom’s claim that Sabine isn’t working alone seems to hold water. This time, however, he sets his sight on Klassan. It turns out that he has a grudge with the ones in charge of the Liberty Pipeline. Apparently Klassan used to be a farmer, but the pipeline people devalued his property.

They go to Klassan’s house to investigate and who does Gravely (Genevieve Angelson) find there but Sabine. She’s escaping from the window. Gravely chases after her, but she escapes. Backstrom is disappointed in his partner. He believes that Gravely thinks Sabine isn’t a criminal, but someone fighting for a just cause.

The team learns that Klassan has a private plane at the Indian reserve, ready to take off. They try to stop this. It prompt Sabine and her companion Einhorn to alight the plane. She threatens, however, that she’s holding a detonator. She can blow up the pier where every SCU member and some of the police from Oxbow are standing. Guns are being pointed at each other and everywhere. It’s tense.

Then, Blue arrives with his men to pacify the situation and he succeeds to let Sabine give up the detonator. He also tells his son and the Oxbow police that he will be the one who’ll deliver Sabine, now labelled as a terrorist, to the FBI. Everyone gets why Everett is not fond of his father. He has no ethics and only wants the glory!

With the case done, Backstrom is sitting in his barge. Amy shows up again to tell him that Oxbow has dropped their complaint. She’s also there to ask how Backstrom is, after what his father has done. Everett makes an attempt to kiss Amy. She pushes him away, calls him an idiot and then leaves in a huff. She clearly still cares for him, but a reconciliation shouldn’t come so easy, right? Backstrom should get a clue!
