The Will Smith starrer action comedy, “Bad Boys,” is back with its third installment “Bad Boys 3.” Read on to learn more about this scoop.
According to Variety, In an interview with “Conan,” Bad Boy actor Martin Lawrence confirms that a third installment of the action comedy franchise is in development.
“I believe so yes — I just talked to Jerry Bruckheimer yesterday and he said it’s real; they’re working on the script, they’re getting close, and it all looks good.” Lawrence told host Conan O’Brien on Wednesday night when asked if there was a possibility for “Bad Boys 3” coming out soon. Earlier, Variety was the first to report that Bruckheimer was helping develop a script for “Bad Boys 3″ last September.
Lawrence did not wholly confirm if co-lead Will Smith will reprise his role for the film.
“I will mention to Will Smith and Jerry Bruckheimer that Conan wants a cameo in the movie,” hinted Lawrence in the Variety report as Conan inclined for a cameo in the film.
The original “Bad Boys” paired Smith and Lawrence as two detectives who took down a drug cartel. It was released in 1995 and spawned a sequel eight years later in 2003. Both films were directed by Michael Bay and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer.
The original film was commercially successful, grossing $141,407,024 worldwide — $65,807,024 in North America and $75,600,000 in other territories. The film’s critical reception scored mixed reviews, with Rotten Tomatoes reporting that 43 percent of 46 sampled critics gave the film positive reviews and that it got a rating average of 4.9 out of 10. The commercial success of the first film fathered a sequel entitled “Bad Boys II,” which, despite getting negative reviews from professional critics, was able to perform well in the box office, grossing $273,339,556 worldwide — $138,608,444 in North America and $134,731,112 in other territories and nominated at the MTV Movie Awards 2004 for “Best Action Sequence,” losing to the “Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.” Will Smith and Martin Lawrence won the award for “Best On-Screen Team.”
