Bad Judge Recap: The Fixer
Kate Walsh at the 2011 Voice Awards.

Bad Judge” Season 1 Episode 10 “The Fixer” aired on Thursday, Jan. 1, 2015, at 9:00 p.m. on NBC. Rebecca helps out her divorcee best friend, Michelle, get on with her life, but sometimes, her advice and solutions don’t always work for the best. Find out what happened in this episode in the recap below.

Rebecca Wright (Kate Walsh) is in Michelle’s (guest star Angela Kinsey) dentist chair for a cleaning, and they talk about where she’s been the other night. Apparently, Michelle has been bunking with Rebecca since leaving her husband, and she’s been a really good roommate. She’s not, however, doing well with her divorce because she slipped and slept with her horrible ex-husband out of loneliness. Rebecca tells her that she will help Michelle get it on with other men.

In court, Judge Wright gets an unusual request from DA Tom (John Ducey), who wants the recess extended until he settles a matter with a key witness against a state senator. Apparently, the witness is not willing to talk even as he’s been given a subpoena. The judge advices Tom to do what he can at all cost to get his guy. That’s what she did one time when she was still a DA. She had to go topless, get her hands dirty and step outside the lines for an important case.

Rebecca also assigns Tedward (Tone Bell) to go with Tom to get his guy. But before that, Rebecca helps them raid the evidence room for “supplies.” They were going to a stakeout, which Tom isn’t comfortable about, but Rebecca reminds him to do whatever it takes.

At the bar, Rebecca works her magic and tries to hook up Michelle with the new, young bartender. She’s kind of clueless, having been out of the dating scene in the last 16 years. But Rebecca slips the bartender Michelle’s phone number. That night, she didn’t come home, but she admits to Rebecca the next morning that she only went out with the bartender to hang-out. Nothing else happened. Yet, he hasn’t stopped texting her, and in fact, he’s invited Michelle to a barbeque at his place. The divorcee isn’t sure about this though because the guy she’s dating is only 24 years old. Rebecca convinces her she needs time to have fun and do beer pong.

At the barbeque, it seems pretty clear that it’s Rebecca who is having way more fun than Michelle. The latter remains uptight, tensed and guarded. Quite a few times, she tells Rebecca that they should just leave the party, as she feels they don’t belong with the young ones. They argue, and Rebecca tells Michelle that it’s like she’s not even trying to enjoy the day. Michelle leaves her.

Meanwhile, Tom and Tedward are sitting on the car outside the key witness’ house. When they see him stepping out, they approach him, and the witness reiterates that he cannot testify as his career will be over.  But Tom feels bold enough to lash out on him, telling the witness that if he won’t sit in court, he will be charged as an accomplice and could go to jail for half his lifetime. Basically, his life, not just his career, will be over. Tom’s tactic, while exaggerated, worked! The guy gets in their car, ready to be in court.

They pick up Rebecca at the party, and Tedward wonders where Michelle is, so the judge tells them what happened. When she gets home, she finds Michelle in the bathtub, reading and crying over “Harry Potter.” But Rebecca happily tells her that the party is actually moving to her house, and Michelle starts freaking out again.

Michelle: Look, you’re great at fixing people’s problems. But you know, what’s gonna fix you is not what’s gonna fix me. I’m not you.

Rebecca understands this time and tells her she will give whatever her friend needs. But for some reason, Michelle changes her mind and declares she would like to see the bartender at the party again.

Meanwhile, Judge Hernandez (Miguel Sandoval) attends a sexual harassment seminar as this is mandatory, and he’s missed a lot of this in the past. He takes the seminar with Judy though, who is required to attend for a different matter altogether. Judy is a repeat offender. The sessions get quite awkward because they have to do skits, which is partly why the judge didn’t want to go in the first place.
