Norman woke up after his psychotic episode with Caleb. As usual, he doesn’t remember anything about it. He was fetched by Cody at Caleb’s after getting a call from someone. They dropped by her house to get money. He immediately learned that Cody is living with an asshole for a father. Norman admitted to Cody that it is not the only time that he had blackout episodes. They realized that they are somewhat similar in what they are experiencing right now. After sharing trade secrets with each other, Norman gets laid for the second time since he arrived to town. Norma continued with her territorial motherly instincts when she first saw Cody as a new girl in her beloved son’s life. Their animosity towards each other was totally upfront and the “Bad Girl” attitude of Cody isn’t helping, either.
Meanwhile, Emma is also now in the hot pursuit of having a potential boyfriend! In previous episodes, it was Gunner’s bed where Emma literally slept in. Gunner (Keenan Tracey) arrived at her work place with Norman watching. He told her that he wanted to take her out and decided on going to the beach that night. It’s obvious that Norman is jealous but he was shot down by Emma with the “Nobody’s perfect” line when Cody arrived. To top it off, Emma also got laid in the episode.
After his house got burned down by Zane (Michael Eklund), a bloodied Sheriff Romero (Nestor Carbonell) checked-in the Bates Motel. He got the “Hotel’s Special” treatment on the house as Norma got to clean his wounds after his fight with Zane.
Norma finally got to see the man who would help her stop the bypass project. It was actually Nick Ford, the father of Miss Watson. They had their meeting at his huge yacht. He gave her a number of a biologist who could help her. Norma started to question Ford’s help after Romero told her that Nick also has a part in the drug/weed business.
This episode proved to be the most exhausting episode for Zane (as of the latest one.) He got beaten by Romero after learning that it was him who burned his house to the ground. Then, he was gunned down by armed men while he was having lunch with Dylan at a Mexican Restaurant.
Lastly, Dylan took the greatest toll from the shootout when he was hit by a car. He later woke up inside a hospital where he met his real boss.
“Bates Motel” Season 2 Episode 5 “The Escape Artist” is directed by Christopher Nelson and written by Nikki Toscano.
