“Bates Motel,” the psychodrama thriller left everyone shrieking with its Season 3 finale. Norman Bates has blood on his hands now. In a true sense, Norman has become ‘the psycho’ now. Freddie Highmore’s Norman Bates is even capable of scaring mother Norma Bates now. Read on.
“Bates Motel” Season 3 ended on a shocking note. The whole season was Norman’s denial to what is happening to him and Norma’s fear as to what his son will turn into. “Bates Motel” Season 4 will be bringing more freak-outs and much darker character for Highmore.
In talks with Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Kerry Ehrin explained the Norman- Norma relationship and what lies ahead. When asked about “Norman-as-Norma,” Kerry Ehrin explained that Freddie Highmore’s Norman Bates is lost now. Norman, who suffers from dissociative disorder or in which a person pulls out another person out from him in overwhelming or out-of-control situations, is finding peace being Norma now.
Ehrin also said that there is one more side to the Norman- Norma relationship.
“He [Norman Bates] has this whole warped, psychosexual, frustrated, messed-up psychology with his mother which also feeds into it.” Ehrin said.
Ehrin also said that Norma Bates’ death would not be the last thing of the series. She will be dying somewhere in the middle to develop the story and to show the scarier Norman Bates!
“I feel like that could happen, honestly, at any point. It could happen in any episode from now until the end of the series!” Ehrin said.
In Season 4 “Bates Motel,” we will see Norman being admitted to mental health sanitarium but also there will be a developed distance between the mother and son. The “Norman- Norma Bates” will be seen distancing each other as Norman will start being completely different and that will scare Norma to some point.
