The Season 4 finale of “Bates Motel” is perhaps one of (if not the) creepiest episodes from the mystery-thriller drama. In “Norman,” the A&E series sets up a suspenseful and, undoubtedly, completely “Psycho” Season 5.

So, when will the Emmy nominated series be back to television? So far, A&E has said no word about a projected release date for the upcoming final season, but it looks like fans should brace for a long, agonizing wait. Carter Matt predicts that all-new episodes will probably be dropped around next spring.

The anticipation for the next season is understandable considering that it will finally set up Alfred Hitchcock’s “Psycho.” In an interview with TV Line, executive producers Kery Ehrin and Carlton Cuse talk about what to expect when “Bates Motel” returns for its fifth and final season.

First of all, Cuse clarified that the A&E series will not try to recreate Hitchcock’s 1960 masterpiece frame by frame. Instead, the final season will follow a different plot that will feature scenes that “collides” with the narrative of the cult film.

The television scribe also divulged that Vera Farmiga (Norma Bates) is not checking out of “Bates Motel.” However, she will have a “slightly modified role” in Season 5.

“She’s existing now in Norman’s brain,” he explained. “In the original ‘Psycho’ you don’t really know anything about Norma Bates. You just know that she’s a corpse, and you imagine that she was this shrew of a woman who berated her son into becoming crazy. But we re-imagined their relationship as this complex, intense, co-dependent love story. And that relationship continues very much in Season 5. It just has a different dimension, which is that she’s dead. But it’s not the end of the story.”

Dylan (Max Thieriot) and Emma (Olivia Cooke) are coming back for Season 5 and Cuse and Ehrin have a devious plot for the two characters. “We very much have a story planned for them next season,” quipped Cuse. “[O]bviously and inevitably, [they] will cross back into Norman’s orbit.”
