If you like your movies big and filled with CGI effects, the “Battleship” trailer will whet your appetite. Compared by some to “Transformers 4,” the trailer for the movie based on the Hasbro game “Battleship” has all the bases covered: aliens doing battle with the U.S. Navy on their old-school ships, sexy young actors in love, and enough action to keep a 13-year-old boy happy.
Starring Taylor Kitsch, Rihanna, Alexander Skarsgard, Brooklyn Decker and Liam Neeson, “Battleship” has someone, and something, for fans from every demographic. There’s even a hint of “Romeo and Juliet”: Liam Neeson’s character, Admiral Shane, disapproves of the romance between his daughter Sam (Decker) and Alex Hopper (Kitsch).
The “Battleship” trailer had better be good; the movie’s estimated budget is $200,000,000. With a lesser-known actor in the lead role, the casting of quality actors Neeson and Skarsgard, photogenic singer Rihanna and Decker, “Maxim” magazine’s #2 spot on the 2010 list of the 100 hottest women may help draw crowds.
If not, the CGI-driven fight scenes in the “Battleship” trailer just might attract action-hungry teens and their parents, nostalgic for the days when Battleship was played with plastic pegs and punctuated by cries of “You just sank my battleship!”
