While filming has already started for the epic drama series “War and Peace” from BBC, the network has announced the addition of Gillian Anderson (“The Fall”), Rebecca Front (“The Wrong Mans”) and Jim Broadbent (“Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince”) to its cast. Read on for more about this update.
In the small screen adaptation of the Leo Tolstoy’s classic, Anderson will be playing the role of Anna Pavovna, Netherland’s queen consort, while Front will be taking on the role of Boris’ mother Anna Mikhailovna. Broadbent, on the other hand, will play the part of Prince Nikolay Bolkonsky, Andrei’s father. The actors will join lead stars like Paul Dano (“There Will Be Blood”), Lily James (“Cinderella”) and James Norton (“Granchester”) whose casting was confirmed back in December, as reported on Movie News Guide.
Meanwhile, the network also confirmed that “War and Peace” will have a host of supporting actors that include Aneurin Barnard (“Cilla”), Ken Stott (“The Hobbit”), Tuppence Middleton (“The Imitation Game”), Stephen Rea (“The Honourable Woman”), Callum Turner (“Glue”), Greta Scacchi (“The Falling”), Tom Burke (“The Musketeers”), Jessie Buckley (“Endeavour”), Brian Cox (“The Game”), Jack Lowden (“The Tunnel”), Kenneth Cranham (“In the Flesh”), Ade Edmondson (“Prey”) and Aisling Lotus (“Good Cop”).
The series is a collaboration between BBC and The Weinstein Co., and it is set to run for six episodes. It is projected to broadcast in the later part of 2015 or early 2016 on BBC, according to TV Wise, but Weinstein is still looking for an interested U.S. broadcaster to air the series in America.
The classic story, which was first published back in 1869, is considered as Tolstoy’s finest work. Considered as historical fiction, “War & Peace” takes place during the invasion of Napoleon in Russia and follows the path of three of its impressionable characters, Pierre Bezukhov (Dano) Natasha Rostov (James) and Prince Andrei (Norton).
Filming for “War and Peace” is already taking place in Latvia, Russia and Lithuania, with Tom Harper at the helm.
