Celebrated film-making duo Ron Howard and Brian Grazer are back. The “Rush” filmmakers have been busy working on a new project and sources have confirmed that it is going to be based on the world of skateboarding.
According to Tracking Board, the duo’s latest project is being pitched as “The Lords of Dogtown” meets “8 Mile.” While we are not entirely sure whether it will involve simultaneous skating and rapping, we can rely on the team that gave us classics like “A Beautiful Mind” and “Apollo 13” will deliver something truly incredible. As usual, we expect that Glazer will produce will Howard directs their latest cinematic outing.
According to the unofficial logline, the film will focus on a teenager who uses a love of skating to escape the urban blight of the surrounding community.
With very few truly good skateboarding films around (with the exception of the aforementioned “Lords Of Dogtown”), we expect Howard and Grazer’s offering will become one of the good staples of the genre which is not populated by films like “Grind” and “In Search of Animal Shin.”
The Howard-Grazer combination is one that will almost assuredly strike cinematic gold. Just consider, for example, their collaborations in the last ten years, which have given us films like the boxing epic “Cinderella Man,” the political drama “Frost/Nixon,” the F1 biography “Rush” and adventure thrillers “Da Vinci Code” and “Angels and Demons.” Together, their movies have grossed over $13 billion. Grazer’s films by themselves have been nominated for 43 Academy Awards and his TV outings for 131 Emmys.
Howard and Grazer’s most recent project (before 8 Mile Dogtown of course) is the historical thriller film “In the Heart of the Sea” about the sinking of the whaling ship Essex in 1820. It stars Chris Hemsworth, Benjamin Walker, Cillian Murphy, Tom Holland, Ben Whishaw, and Brendan Gleeson.
“In the Heart of the Sea” will premiere in theaters on Dec. 11, 2015
