Fancy writer Justin Theroux has recently revealed that he and funny man Ben Stiller have finally finished the first draft of their screenplay for Zoolander 2. Theroux saysthat he is “very optimistic” about the beleagured sequel to the 2001 film. Despite studios washing their hands of the deal.
“The script is in good shape right now,” says Theroux . “I’m feeling very optimistic about it. We’re doing a few little tweaks before we submit it, but I’m very hopeful that I’m going to be working on that soon. It’s too funny – it’ll blow your mind.”
The Zoolander 2 script features Stiller’s supermodel character Derek Zoolander and Owen Wilson’s Hansel attempting to re-enter the fashion industry as they turn 40. (A big problem in the industry, so I hear.)
“[The duo] start off with them in a pretty bad place… They’re about to ring 40’s bell,” says Theroux. “They have to claw their way back into the fashion industry in some way or another.”
Theroux went on to say that he’s hopeful that Will Ferrell will come back to play Mugatu, the villain from the first film. The writer also said that he has created a new character for Jonah Hill.
“We are planning on seeing Mugatu,” he said. “There are a couple new villains that step onto the stage, which we are all very happy about. And yes, Jonah is the inspiration for one of them.”
No word if Zoolander 2 will ever see the light of day.
