Aside from the hit show “Suits,” USA Network is cooking up a different kind of legal show. This time, there will not be much drama, but more laughs, and it will definitely grace the small screen later this year. USA Network’s new legal comedy, “Benched,” will be coming to town every Tuesday night, as the network has finally set a premiere date for this new television show. Read on to learn more about this story.
After months of speculation, the new television series, “Benched,” finally has a premiere date. The legal comedy, and the latest offering of USA Network, according to Deadline, will premiere on Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2014, at 10:30 p.m.
“Benched” is described as a single-camera thirty-minute legal comedy. The show follows a high-powered corporate lawyer named Nina Whitley (Eliza Coupe), who has a nervous breakdown after she was passed up on a promotion at her firm. Because of this she ends up finding employment at the most unlikely place — at the Public Defenders office. There, she enters the tough world of a public defender, something that her years in corporate law had not prepared her for.
Eliza Coupe, who portrays the lead Nina Whitley, is best known for her role as Jane Kerkovich-Williams on the short-lived but well-loved television series, “Happy Endings,” from 2011 to 2013. She has also appeared in other various projects, including “Scrubs: Interns” (2009) and “Scrubs” (2009 to 2010).
Joining Eliza Coupe in the cast are Jay Harrington, Maria Bamford, Oscar Nunez, Jolene Purdy and Carter MacIntyre.
“Benched” is the latest offering of USA Network, and the latest scoop on the network on Deadline reports that this show will fit right into their planned “Tuesday night comedy block.” The USA Network “Tuesday night comedy block” includes shows such as “Modern Family” and “Chrisley Knows Best.”
