Benedict Cumberbatch Worried About Handling Fame; Almost Had Turned Down ‘Sherlock Holmes’

Just imagine how would it have been if your favorite BBC “Sherlock” series starred anyone else apart from Benedict Cumberbatch? Yes, the British actor actually disclosed that he had almost rejected the role that made him world famous. Find out.

The 39-year-old actor, who starred as the contemporary epitome of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s most celebrated frictional character – detective Sherlock Holmes, since 2010 in the award-winning BBC series, was actually much worried about the fame the role would bring him, cited Glamour Magazine.

Benedict Cumberbatch has been doing a great job in Hollywood, starting from “The Hobbit” or to his forthcoming movie “Doctor Strange” for Marvel. We have seen the actor relish a stupendous growth in the acting industry. But honestly, Cumberbatch owes the greater part of his success to the hit television series Sherlock.

Recently, while speaking to CNN’s Talk Asia Benedict Cumberbatch revealed that it took him to registering who was included in the series before he decided upon taking it up.

However, fortunately for the Sherlock lovers Cumberbatch did say yes and the series gained him so much fame that recently his fans have been waiting in line for several hours to watch him live on stage playing Hamlet at London.

While talking about playing Sherlock Holmes, Benedict Cumberbatch said, “Hopefully I haven’t left being a respected actor behind by playing Sherlock. I was just going from great jobs but they weren’t in the limelight. They weren’t in the public eye quite to the extent that I knew that character no matter what we did with it was going to garner that kind of attention.” Furthermore, the actor thanked his group of fans, known as ‘Cumberb****es’ and mentioned they have always been supportive of his work.

Benedict Cumberbatch acknowledged that playing the character of “Sherlock Holmes” has been a life changing experience, while he is identified everywhere he goes, and millions of people know him just by name, but he strived to notice the humorous side of it.
