Fresh from being named as 2015’s highest paid lady in the music industry by Forbes Magazine, Katy Perry was quoted to tell the publication, “I’m an entrepreneur . . . I don’t want to shy away from it. I actually want to kind of grab it by its balls.” How well do we really know the “Firework” singer? Read on to know more.
Her $135 million earnings the past year may be transparently available to the public, but here are some things we bet you didn’t know about Perry. (via Vogue Magazine)
Her parents are both ministers, which greatly contributed to who she is today. “I wasn’t able to say I was lucky, because my mother would rather us say that we were blessed, and she also didn’t like that lucky sounded like Lucifer,” Perry said in a Rolling Stone interview back in 2010. On being religious, “I try and keep my connection with the G-O-D or with a power that’s bigger than me. It’s important—otherwise, you don’t have any kind of accountability.” she said.
Perry confesses she didn’t have a childhood, as her parents read the bible to her instead of bedtime stories. This also made her have trouble staying up when reading by herself, although she was able to read through “The Help” and loved it.
Born Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, Perry had her debut album in 2001 called “Katy Hudson”. It was a Christian music record. Perry changed into her stage name to differentiate herself from actress Kate Hudson (“Almost Famous”, “How to Lose A Guy in 10 Days”)
“Killer Queen” was the first song that made her aspire to be a musician. “My world froze,” describing how she felt when she first heard the song. “It was a very cinematic feeling, and it opened up this lyrical world.” she added. Speaking of the song, her third fragrance was christened (pun not intended) with the same name, in honor of Freddie Mercury.
Adding to the honor of being the highest paid woman in music, she also has the bragging rights as the queen of Twitter, with over 77 million followers. She bested pop star Justin Bieber in 2013, who is now in second place, with 69 million. Perry has an admission, though. . “I have horrible typos. I use there or your wrong grammatically. But I feel like I’ve learned how to tame that social media dragon.”
