In “Better Call Saul” Season 1, Episode 7 “Five-O” it centered on Mike’s life and why he required Jimmy’s services. Watch out fans, because this one’s heartbreaking, it just gave us the feels. Read on for the full recap.

The episode kicked off in a flashback with Mike nursing a gunshot wound and arriving in a train station in Albuquerque. He was picked up by Stacy, who turns out to be her daughter-in-law. He wants to stay in their home and be a good grandfather to his granddaughter, Kayleigh and promised Stacy that he’s sober now.

Reluctant, Stacy needed Mike to answer some questions regarding the death of her husband, Matt, Mike’s son. Matt was a Philadelphia cop and he was killed. However, before he died Stacy remembered Matt talking to someone over the phone. It seems like a heated argument because Matt was yelling.

Back in the present day, Mike is being questioned by the Philadelphia police who went all the way to Albuquerque just to see him. Even though he wasn’t put in police custody, he still didn’t want to answer his questions until he has a lawyer and that’s when Jimmy came in the picture. When Jimmy got there, Mike instructed him to spill coffee on one of the cops. Jimmy was hesitant at first, but he did what his client told him to do. Mike wiped off the coffee from the cop’s uniform while he sneakily grabbed a notebook from his pocket.

It turns out that the reason why the cops were interrogating Mike. It was because two of their cops were killed and before their deaths, they were at a bar where Mike was, too.

In the notebook that he stole from one of the cops, he found out that it was Stacy who led the cops to him and he confronted her about this. She said that it was because there was cash in their mattress lining.

Then we had a flashback again, Mike was in Philadelphia. He saw a police car and he opened it with a string and planted something at the back. When he got inside the bar he found two cops at the bar as well, and he told them “I know it was you.” Mike left the bar but the two cops followed him asked him if they could take him home. He obliged and on the ride home, one of the cops asked him what he meant earlier. We know that he was pertaining to his son’s death. It was because these two cops were the killers of his son. Just before they could kill Mike and make it look suicide, Mike shot them. He got shot as well, hence the gunshot wound during the first part of this episode.

Then it was revealed to us that the person Matt was talking over the phone before he died was Mike. Matt was asking advice from his father because some of his co-workers at the station were getting drug money. He wanted to rat him out because he was a good cop. He was also offered money for him to shut up. Mike told his son to keep it and not meddle in things like that. Still, the cops killed Matt sensing his weakness.

Mike still feels guilty up until this day and said “I broke my boy. I made him lesser, I made him like me. And the bastards killed him anyway.”
