Betty Cooper is ready to fight for love in Riverdale Season 2. A few months before the return to television of the popular teen drama based on the characters from Archie Comics, executive producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa revealed the future of Bughead (Betty + Jughead).

Season 1 Finale Recap

The first season of the teen drama saw Jughead Jones (Cole Sprouse) finally admit his feelings for Betty (Lili Reinhart) and, in a surprising turn of events, she said that she felt the same way! This led to a hot make-out session that was cut with a knock on the door.

After rushing to put their clothes back on, Jughead opens the door to reveal the Southside Serpents. They told him that they had his back and invited him to join their gang. As Jughead wears the jacket, Betty looks on with worried eyes. The only thing that she can say to him was, “Juggy?”

From the looks of it, after they finally admitted their feelings for each other, things will not be smooth-sailing for Betty and Jughead. Joining the Southside Serpent might mean a few changes in Season 2, something that Sacasa warned in an interview with EW.

“It seems like we end on an ominous note,” the executive producer said about the final scene. “The fear Betty has is Jughead is going to be sucked into this world that has nothing to do with Betty — he might be going to a new school, living with a new family in a different part of town, he’s joined this gang.”

However, fans should not expect Betty to just stand by and watch her new boyfriend get sucked into this new life. Sacasa assured that she will fight for Jughead in Season 2.

” All I’ll tease is Betty is not someone who gives up easily,” he stated. “She’s probably the strongest of the kids. If she’s going to start losing Jughead, which may happen, she’s going to fight for him.”

Riverdale Season 2 Production Begins

Meanwhile, fans would not have to wait long for new episodes of the teen drama to hit television. On Twitter, Archie Comics announced that the second season will start filming on Tuesday, June 22.

The announcement was accompanied by a photo of Jughead (Sprouse) using his hand to hide his face from the camera while eating a hearty burger.

He is not the only one having a fiesta. Co-star Madchen Amick also previously shared a photo with the cast and crew during the table-read for Riverdale Season 2.

She shared that the table read was for Episodes 1, 2 and 3 of the second season. The photo included new cast members Charles Melton and Mark Consuelos who will play the roles of Reggie Butler and Hiram Lodge respectively. See below:

Luke Perry who played the role of Fred Andrews was noticeably absent from the table read. This fired up rumors that the actor will not be back for Season 2, especially considering that his character was left bleeding out in the hands of his son Archie (K.J. Apa) after being shot by a masked man in Pop’s.

Sacasa refused to reveal the fate of Fred in Season 2 but in a previous interview with E! Online, the executive producer assured that Perry will be present in the premiere episode of Season 2.

He also shared that after the shocking events of Season 1, fans should not expect too drastic of a time jump in Season 2. The EP explained that they try to explore these consequences of actions and, therefore, if there is going to be a time jump, it will just be mere minutes, if not seconds after the finale closed.

Riverdale Season 2 will premiere on Oct. 11 on The CW.
