Disney has announced the home-video release date for last year’s animated hit “Big Hero 6,” which will be made available for home viewing on Feb. 3, 2015 on Digital HD and on the Disney Movies Anywhere app. The animated pic will be available on Blu-ray and DVD on Feb. 24, 2015. The home release will contain special features including deleted scenes, a behind-the-scenes feature with the film’s cast and an exclusive Easter egg feature exclusively available to Blu-ray owners.
Inspired by the superhero team from Marvel Comics, “Big Hero 6” is produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios. The film will be directed by Don Hall and Chris Williams and will be the 54th animated feature in the Walt Disney Animated Classics series.
Set in a fictional metropolis called San Fransokyo, a portmanteau of San Fransisco and Tokyo, “Big Hero 6″ follows the adventures of a young robotics prodigy named Hiro Hamada and his inflatable robot Baymax to uncover a criminal plot and pull together a team of inexperienced crime fighters, including adrenaline junkie Go Go Tomago, neatnik Wasabi, chemistry whiz Honey Lemon and fanboy Fred.
“Big Hero 6” premiered at the 27th Tokyo International Film Festival on Oct. 23, 2014 and at the Abu Dhabi Film Festival in 3D on Oct. 31, 2014 and was theatrically released in the United States on Nov. 7, 2014, receiving critical acclaim. As of Jan. 4, 2015, “Big Hero 6” has earned $211,207,036 in North America and an estimated $167,400,000 in other countries, for a worldwide total of $378,607,036. “Big Hero 6” was nominated for a Annie Award for Best Animated Feature and a Golden Globe Award for Best Animated Feature Film.
