Bill Murray is cast to voice Baloo, the easy-going bear, in its 3D live-action adaptation movie of the animated pic, “Jungle Book,” while Warner Bros. is to set its own adaptation of the book “Jungle Book: Origins” a year after Disney’s. Read on for more details on the story.
Based on the Deadline report, Bill Murray is cast to voice Baloo in Disney’s 3D live-action remake of its animation film, “Jungle Book,” based on Rudyard Kipling’s classic novel. Weeks earlier, Christopher Walken and Giancarlo Esposito were confirmed to join Disney’s upcoming 3D live-action adaptation of its classical animation, lending their voices to King Louie, a fire-envious orangutan and Akela, leader of the wolf pack where Mowgli belongs, respectively.
Baloo is an easy-going, fun-loving bear that befriends Mowgli and teaches him the life leisure. But when Shere Khan, a Bengal tiger who’s had a taste for human flesh, returns in the jungle, Baloo and his panther friend, Bagheera, must try to convince Mowgli to leave the jungle and rejoin his fellow humans for his safety.
Along with Murray are Idris Elba as the man-eating tiger, Shere Khan; Ben Kingsley as the worrisome Bagheera; Scarlett Johansson as Kaa, a kaleidoscope-eyed hypnotic snake; Lupita Nyong’o as the wolf Raksha, mother to Mowgli; Walken as King Louie, a ruler of a troop of monkeys; Giancarlo Esposito as Akela, leader of the wolf pack; and newcomer Neel Sethi as the lead character, Mowgli. The live-action film adaptation is penned by Justin Marks and directed by Jon Favreau. It is set to open in theaters on Oct. 9, 2015.
On the other hand, Warner Bros. will also try to make an adaptation of Rudyard Kipling’s novel, setting a date for the officially titled “Jungle Book: Origins.” The film feature will be helmed by director Andy Serkis and screenplay is penned by Callie Kloves. The pic will hit theaters on Oct. 21, 2016, a year after Disney’s October 2015 adaptation and will face off against Universal’s Untitled Blumhouse Horror 3.
