Black-ish” Season 1 Episode 4 “Crazy Mom” aired on Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2014, at 9:30 p.m. on ABC. Dre offered to take over mommy duties from Rainbow for a week. Find out what happened in this episode in the recap below.

As a doctor and a mother, Rainbow (Tracee Ellis Ross) definitely has her hands full, especially with four youngsters to take care of. Her husband, Dre (Anthony Anderson), doesn’t understand the difficult task of being a homemaker, so that when he bragged about loading up the dishwasher perfectly, Bow was unimpressed. To prove to his wife that he can do her chores as a mom, Dre said he would take over mommy duties for one week.

First up — bring cupcakes to the twins’ class the next day. Bow would usually bake this herself, but Dre took the easy route and bought from the store. The kids and teachers at school were impressed, though, because fathers rarely do this for their kids. Dre received a lot of praise for, it and he was pretty please with himself.

Rainbow: Liquor store cupcakes and you’re a hero? I made those ungrateful runts quiche with green eggs and ham for Dr. Seuss day, and I got nothing… Nothing!

There’s supposedly one bright side to this for Bow, as she had some free time to pretty much do what she wanted. But being the hands-on mother that she has always been, she was actually having a hard time enjoying this free time. When she asked the kids if they needed anything, it disappointed her that it's all been taken cared for by Dre.

The next day, Dre was back in school, and this time, he received little praises, especially when he didn’t bring the kids anything. One mom told him that the lure usually doesn’t last long, and it’s just the way things were. She should know. She was in the same boat. She used to go crazy trying to get the rest to see what she's done for the children.

Determined to impress the people at school, Dre baked actual cornbread to bring to the kids’ discussion about civil war and Harriet Tubman the next day. But no one was once again impressed. What’s more, there’s another dad who brought the kids popcorn, and they loved him. They munched on these as someone was role-playing Harriet Tubman for the children, which Dre also had issues with.

Later at home, Dre was drafting a letter addressed to the school about the Tubman incident. Bow pointed out that Dre has taken over being the Crazy Mom. Also, he was such a praise hog. He loved doing things so long as he got credit.

Dre, on the other hand, accused Bow of being a control freak. Apparently, when Dre was taking over kitchen duties, Bow would swoop in afterwards and rearrange everything that Dre just did.

Rainbow: You are a praise junkie!
Dre: You are a control freak! Don’t think I didn’t notice you re-put away all the silverware. You told me that you wanted me to do it. But you don’t want me doing it.
Rainbow: No, no, no. I want you to do it. But I want you to do it how I do it.

Pops was bothered by Dre and Rainbow arguing, and as usual, he had some very wise things to say. He pointed out that this role reversal was a bit freaky. Moms are moms, and Dre trying to be mom just messes it all up. He even suggested how Dre can make it up to Bow and bring order to their little universe. With the help of the kids, they were able to convince Bow that they really needed Mom doing her mommy duties back, and Dre was more than willing and happy to step back.

And that’s what happened on “Black-ish” Season 1 Episode 4 “Crazy Mom,” which aired on Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2014, at 9:30 p.m. on ABC.
