The Blacklist” Season 2 Episode 19 “No. 62: Leonard Caul” aired last Thursday, April 23, 2015 at 10:00 p.m. on NBC. In this episode, as Raymond “Red” Reddington (James Spader) fought for his life, he instructed FBI Special Agent Elizabeth “Liz” Keen (Megan Boone) to find Leonard Caul (Ned Van Zandt) , who knew how to decipher The Fulcrum. At the same time, Liz also discovered a deeper connection between her and Red, and turned to Tom Keen (Ryan Eggold) for help.  Read on to learn more about this episode.

The episode began with a man with stitches on his neck listening to a recording while hanging up pictures of FBI Special Agent Elizabeth “Liz” Keen (Megan Boone) and Raymond “Red” Reddington (James Spader). He also listened to a recording of Liz and her ex-husband, Tom Keen (Ryan Eggold).

Meanwhile, Dembe (Hisham Tawfiq) and Liz shot at those who were firing at them, and placed Red inside the car. As they drove, Liz applied pressure on Red’s chest, and tried to get help from the task force. However, Dembe threw out her phone and contacted Mr. Kaplan (Susan Blommaert), who told Liz to go to a particular warehouse, and contacted an EMT, several doctors and nurses, who went to the warehouse and prepared for surgery. When they got there, Liz was surprised to see that there was an operating area ready for Red, who told her to find a man named Leonard Caul (Ned Van Zandt).

Afterwards, as the FBI began to process the crime scene where Red had been shot, The Director (David Strathairn) instructed his men to locate Red, and a man, Leonard Caul , watched the shooting unfold as he had been able to hack into the security cameras in that area.

Back at the task force, Tom Connolly (Reed Birney), the incoming Attorney General, told FBI Assistant Director Harold Cooper (Harry Lennix), that he could use any resources from his office. They then were able to question Helen Jubal (Leslie Lyles), the former head of Operation Harwood, which Caul had been part of before, who told them that Caul had come to her recently as he had been scared because he had gotten mixed up in something with Red. Also, in instructing the task force to look for Caul, Liz revealed to them the existence of The Fulcrum, and the fact that the Cabal had probably called Red’s bluff, which was why he had been targeted.

Back at the warehouse, Mr. Kaplan shot two men posing as FBI agents, who entered the warehouse and who shot the only surgeons present in the room. Because of this, Liz determined that there had been a leak, and moved Red to an abandoned warehouse, where Tom Keen (Ryan Eggold) was currently living in. She then contacted Nick (Piter Marek), a former suitor and surgeon, to help save Red’s life.

While Nick operated on Red, Tom informed Liz that he could help her find the answers that she had been looking for. Afterwards, Mr. Kaplan paid Nick in order to perform a more complicated procedure in order to extract the bullet from Red’s lung. Dembe then instructed Liz to go to Red’s flat and to get a particular device so that they could give it to Caul, who could decipher The Fulcrum, and told her to never tell Red that she had been inside.

After retrieving the case, she was shocked to find pictures of her graduating from college, and a picture of her as a toddler with her mother. However, as she opened the door to leave, Caul forced her back inside, and told her that he was on their side as Alan Fitch (Alan Alda) had wanted him and Red to meet. He then inserted The Fulcrum into the case, which acted as a projector, and flashed all the information on the wall.

On their way back, Liz realized that The Director was part of the cabal, and informed Tom and the others that they were surrounded by men. Tom and the others then tried their best to defend Red. Red, who also defended himself, had a gun to his head, when, surprisingly, the men backed off as Liz had threatened The Director that she would expose him as she had copies of the files on The Fulcrum if he didn’t call his men off. Before she left, The Director told Liz that she looked very much like her mother.

Afterwards, The Director informed Connolly that since he had done as they had asked- betray a friend, he know had a seat on the Cabal.

Meanwhile, Liz decided to make good on Tom’s offer, and asked him about everything that he knew about Red.
