Read on to learn more about this episode.
The episode began with a woman, Vanessa Cruz (Ana de la Reguera) framing a man named Declan Salinger (Lonnie McCullough). He was later found dead in his hotel room bathtub.
Meanwhile, Tom Keen (Ryan Eggold) begged FBI Special Agent Elizabeth “Liz” Keen (Megan Boone) for his passports back. He could start a brand new life in which he wouldn’t have to run to save his own life. However, they were interrupted by Raymond “Red” Reddington’s (James Spader). He told him to leave and brought the case of Vanessa Cruz to Liz’s attention.
According to their files and notes, this woman, who was currently impersonating her girlfriend, Abby Issa (Hani Avital), to purchase a small gun, frames the one percent, whom she hates. After paying a visit to Lester Charles Conway (Stephen Schnetzer), one of those Vanessa had framed, they used his lawyer’s notes, and the notes of the lawyer’s of the other victims to put together a picture and a fingerprint of Vanessa Cruz.
While they did this, Red met up with Roger Hobbs (Ralph Brown), and instructed him to get the vote of Kenneth Jasper (James A. Stephen). He did it so that the vote would swing in his favor when they met up with The Director (David Strathairn) the next day. Roger then told Red to bring The Fulcrum with him so that they would know that he really had it.
Meanwhile, Abby’s identity, Vanessa lured Mason Carlton (Jeff Aver) to a motel. Dhe handcuffed him to a bed, while she collected DNA samples, clothes and carpet fibers from the motel room.
While she did this, Liz and FBI Special Agent Donald Ressler (Diego Klattenhoff) paid a visit to Vanessa’s mother. She told them that her husband had killed himself as he had been a criminal. However, Vanessa believed that her husband had been set up. He told them that Vanessa was dead as Vanessa’s life insurance policy was the only thing that helped her pay the mortgage on her house.
After taking a look at the policy, they realized that it was a shelf corporation, just like the ones used by her other victims to launder money. As Liz refused to give The Fulcrum to Red, she decided to turn to Tom for help in exchange for his passports which were in the FBI evidence locker. Before he left her, he told her that she was his greatest success. He told her that he was going to start a diving company somewhere in Micronesia. However, Liz became disappointed. It was after he refused to tell her where he had gotten the passports, and kissed him goodbye.
Ressler and a team raided Vanessa’s apartment, only to find that it was empty because at that moment. She met up with Abby who finally lodged a complaint against her boss, Carlton, who kept on bothering her at work. However, Ressler discovered files, blood samples, saliva samples and trace evidence that were neatly filed under each victim’s name. He then realized that this entire thing was about revenge. They realized that her next victim would be Carlton, who had been Vanessa’s husband’s boss when he was fired.
After talking to Lester again, they discovered that he and the other victims had been part of a real estate conspiracy. They had used to set up Hernando Cruz, whom they had killed after he discovered the scheme, and threatened to talk.
After digging into Carlton, they discovered that he was having an affair with his assistant, Abby, and that he was going to a hotel room at the Wolverton Hotel, where Vanessa was supposed to meet Abby that night. She was going to frame Carlton for Abby’s murder, but she couldn’t bring herself to do it. He left her in the room for the FBI to find before disappearing. However, at the airport, she was met by Mr. Kaplan, who offered Red’s help to her.
Meanwhile, Red discovered that Roger had vanished. He realized that he had been betrayed by Jasper, and told him that he was coming for him.
Liz then met Red and asked him if it was true that he had given Tom the passports. He then confirmed that he had hired Tom to enter her life in the first place. Horrified, she gave him The Fulcrum. He was about to leave when Red was shot in the head. It was a risky move for The Director as Red’s death would trigger a release of everything on The Fulcrum.
