In Episode 21 “Berlin” (air date: May 05, 2014), Liz gave her resignation to Cooper after learning Red’s part on her father’s death. Unfortunately, the viral outbreak gave her no other choice, but to work on a last case with Red. They went to talk with Dr. Bruce Sanders, a man who was connected with the creation of the Cullen Virus. Liz got irritated that Red did not tell her that Sanders. He was now a patient at a mental institute. Liz searched the phrase “Space Agent UD-4126” and it lead them to Dr. Nikolaus Vogel, the man who started injecting the virus to ordinary people.  Liz received the grave news that Red must be put in custody if she will leave the case. The FBI tried to handle the situation personally, but their attempt was unfruitful. Liz admitted that she wanted to make Red pay for his mistakes. As Red surrenders for the second time, the prisoner plane crashed immediately.

In Episode 22 “Berlin: Conclusion” (air date: May 12, 2014), Liz and Red learned more about Berlin fom a critically injured guard who seems to have more information on his history. Red found his guy and began torturing him for answers while Liz was ambushed by her husband/hired spy, Tom. The former couple started to fight when Red shot “Berlin” in the head. Tom injured Red, but it was Liz who killed Tom.  Ressler and Cooper found out that the injured guy was actually Berlin and he has escaped from the hospital. The FBI faced another problem regarding the death of Meera, one of their trusted colleagues. Liz, on the other, confronted Red about Tom’s “last words” about the identity of her biological father. Upon hearing that Liz’s father was alive, Red told her that her father died durind the fire incident. The episode ended showing few visible scars on Red’s back as he tries to treat the bullet wound in his shoulder.
