With the way that things ended in the mid-season finale of “The Blacklist”, many are hoping that former FBI Agent Elizabeth “Liz” Keen (Megan Boone) will soon be granted a Christmas miracle. However, there are still some difficult times for Liz ahead in the coming episodes, and also as a familiar face will be returning to haunt both her and Tom Keen (Ryan Eggold). WARNING: This article will contain spoilers for the midseason premiere of “The Blacklist.”

In the mid-season finale of “The Blacklist,” former FBI Agent Elizabeth “Liz” Keen (Megan Boone) was left with nowhere to turn to as she was finally arrested by FBI Agent Donald Ressler (Diego Klattenhoff).

However, based on the synopsis of the mid-season premiere that NBC offered, and based on the exclusive sneak peek that was released by Spoiler TV, it seems that Liz’s troubles have just only begun.

The upcoming episode, “The Director-Part 1,” will be airing on Thursday, Jan. 7 at 9 pm.

According to NBC, the upcoming episode will see Raymond “Red” Reddington (James Spader) teaming up with Aram Mojtabai (Amir Arison) in order to protect Liz, who is awaiting trial.

Hopefully, their plan to protect Liz will be foolproof, as every second that she is out in the open is another golden opportunity for the Cabal to get rid of her, permanently.

The exclusive sneak peek clip that was released on Spoiler TV shows exactly this. It showed National Security Advisor Laurel Hitchin (Christine Lahti) telling CIA Director Peter Kotsiopulos (David Strathairn) that he has a window of three hours, the duration in which it will take Liz to get transported to a nearby courthouse for a closed hearing, to get rid of her for good.

In a scene before that exchange, Liz told Ressler, while she was being readied to be escorted to her transport, that she was glad that she killed Attorney General Tom Connolly (Reed Birney), and hoped that she wouldn’t have to die for her own convictions.

However, it seems that another face from the past will come to haunt both Liz and Tom Keen (Ryan Eggold). Entertainment Weekly has recently discovered that actress Margarita Levieva will be reprising her role as Gina Zanetakos this season.

Zanetakos, an assassin who dabbled in corporate espionage and terrorism, in the first season, was the catalyst for Liz and the task force to discover that there might be more to Tom than what meets the eye.

Since then, Zanetakos was offered a deal by the FBI, which makes it possible for her to reappear in this season.

According to the report, she will once again be causing trouble for the couple, whose relationship, although unconventional, seems to be stronger than it was before.
